Is the East better then the West this year?

Yeah man I think it is. You have 4 power houses in the East. Miami, Boston, Orlando, and Chicago. And yes I do think the Bulls are a legitimate contender. Then you have the Hawks as well who are consistently good. The competition falls off a little bit from there, but the Bucks were hot in the 2nd half of last year and they got Salmons for a full year this year as well as Bogut, they could surprise some people. The Knicks have gotten better, and the Nets have improved but might still get Carmelo.

The West seems to have gotten worse. There are maybe 2 contenders besides the Lakers in the West, im talking about Houston and Portland. But both of those teams have bad injury problems (Yao and Oden).

The West is still better overall.

The Kings and the Warriors would be guaranteed to make the playoffs if they were in the East, since the bottom seeded teams in that conference are likely to be the Bobcats, Knicks, Pacers, or perhaps the Nets. All of these teams have a good chance to be the 7th or 8th seed, but the Warriors and the Kings are better than all of them.

But since they are in the West, it's still questionable since they would have to compete with the Lakers, Blazers, Mavericks, Spurs, Jazz, Thunder, Rockets, and even the Suns and the Nuggets... that's 9 teams that have a good chance at the playoffs, and that's not including the Kings and Warriors.

The East definitely has more of the upper echelon of teams in the league. The Heat, Magic, Celtics, Bulls, Nets (if they get Melo), Bucks, and possibly the Hawks can win 50 games this year.

As for the West, the Lakers, Thunder, Blazers, Jazz, Mavs, Rockets, Spurs, and possibly the Suns can make a run at 50 wins this year.

I'd give the advantage to the East due to the amount of power houses and contenders they have.

I think the competitiveness is even stronger this year for the West because you have so many teams who have a chance to make the playoffs. They're going to have a lot of teams over .500, in fact I reckon they're going to have at least 10 teams with a .500 record.

It would be easier to get out of the first round if you were in the East.

After that, though, it would be a struggle to get to the conference finals out East.

Winning regular season games? It would be easier out East...aside from the superpowers and teams like the Bulls, Hawks and Bucks (and even two of those aren't too difficult to beat), you can't really say it will be a struggle.
