Will the Hedo experiment work?

In 2005-06, the Suns were without Amare Stoudemire the entire season and managed to win 54 games with Nash and Marion leading the way. I'm not trying to compare that team to this years' team, but I do feel like it generates a solid comparison. Boris Diaw had a career year that season averaging 13-7-6, most notable for a few triple doubles he had that year. Hedo's game is quite similar to Diaws, a big guy that is a very good playmaker, but with a much better shot that can stretch the floor and better passing ability.

I'm interested in seeing how he plays alongside Nash. Hedo doesn't like playing off the ball, his impact on the game relies on whether or not he has the ball in his hands or not, and he's pretty average without it. I think anything effecting Nash's game will have a negative impact on this offense as well. But that pick n roll with Hedo and Nash will definitely be a huge plus to this squad, and I'm sure it will cause a ton of problems for opposing defenses.

Where do you see the Suns this year? Will this Hedo-Nash duo workout or will this lead to the front office thinking about rebuilding?

It is hard to say, it really depends on how Hedo is used. As long as Nash remains in form, which you have to imagine he will, and J-Rich can give them close to 20 nightly, you have to figure they will win pretty close to 50 games. Hedo allows them to take the ball out Nash's hands, and use Nash as a shooter, one of the things he is the best in the league at. If Hedo as used as a shooter, like he was in Toronto, I don't expect him to make a huge impact.

It will be interesting to see how things unfold, I really hate the idea of Hedo at the 4 though, I heard that going around that he might be playing there.

I know Nash is awesome shooting of the dribble, but I'm not so sure about his spot up shooting, I don't watch them enough to know, but I have to assume he is pretty good shooting of the ball as well. If Hedo does well though, Nash's numbers, at least assists, are going to go down.... however if it works Nash's points could go way up.

It'll work pretty well. They won't be as effective as they were with Amare, but they'll adjust and be a mid-seed in the playoffs. I doubt we will see much of Hedo at PF because as opposed to in 2005-2006, they actually have some legit big men to eat up those minutes (Frye, Lopez, Warrick, etc..). Despite Hedo's need to be ball-dominant, I'd expect to see him play a Toronto role rather than Orlando role. He will get his oppertunities to run the offense and make plays, but he'll spend the majority of his time finishing plays off and working off Nash. I think he'll be relatively happy with that, though, as playing with Nash will make his game so much easier and almost every player that has joined the Suns in the Nash-era has had a career year. I mean, even Shaq found the fountain of youth in Phoenix...

Basically, he'll fit in just fine.

Yeah, I don't see them pulling the ball out of Nash's hands too much, but I do think Hedo will run the offense much more when Nash is on the bench. I'd be surprised to see the opposite, because Nashty makes way too many plays out of the pick and roll, it's amazing...and they will definitely need to feed off of that even more this season.

Phoenix did blow leads when Nash was sitting on the sidelines, mainly because Dragic wasn't the playmaker they needed him to be. However, while Hedo isn't Nash, he can still operate with the ball in his hands, so getting Nash more rest will only do good things for the Suns in the long run...will definitely help them on back-to-backs, and long road stretches.

It will work. Everything works with Nash except defense.

The line-up will be Nash, Richardson, Turkoglu, Warrick and Lopez. As always, there will be a player who has his career year, aka Hakim; he's an athletic four with a decent mid-range shot (even if he doesn't, he'll pull a Frye and suddenly be a top shooter after a couple trainings), much Amar'e like.

The Suns will be just fine.

“No. Not a way. ”

“You are being serious? Guy who owns Little Caesars bought the Detroit Pistons?”

“Basketball team Pistons?”

“Hedo’s gotta go.”

“Ball.”
