The Goods
The Bulls are expected to have roughly $25 million in cap space next season, but they could spend carefully. Chicago spent $60 million on Ben Wallace a few summers ago and the signing wasn't nearly what the club expected it to be. Bulls CEO Jerry Reinsdorf was asked by The Chicago Sun-Times on Monday if the Wallace signing has made him leery of courting another big-money player. "Yes. But the only way you can avoid making a mistake is not to make a decision," Reinsdorf said. "Even Jerry West has made mistakes, and he's probably the best in the business. Even [Red] Auerbach made mistakes. Was Ben Wallace a mistake? Probably. Because what we didn't think about is Ben needs to play alongside somebody who can score a lot of points. But I don't think it's about Ben Wallace that makes us be careful. It's the thought that when you make a mistake, you own that mistake. So we've got to be careful." http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/60705/20090721/chicagos_big_ben_mistake_has_reinsdorf_cautious/
