LeBron says Heat 'will let our game do the talking'

Posted Sep 27 2010 2:45PM - Updated Sep 27 2010 6:46PM

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) -- In one breath, LeBron James insisted that he's moved past the venom directed his way after he chose to join the Miami Heat. In the next, the NBA's two-time reigning MVP said all those naysayers out there are his fuel.

Which rings true?

Apparently, both.

"I don't want to keep harping about what people have said about me," James said. "But personally, I'm motivated by what has gone on this summer."

Music to the collective Heat ears, right there. Donning his new Heat home uniform and spending the afternoon flanked by fellow star teammates Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, James began a new Miami chapter Monday, hours before his team was to fly north for training camp in Florida's Panhandle.

Since "The Decision," as it's known, James has been called a quitter by Cleveland owner and former boss Dan Gilbert, had his competitiveness questioned by the Orlando Magic, heard Dallas owner Mark Cuban say he made a bad business deal, and found himself taking note of what was written and said by countless pundits.

It's all made James feel like he has something to prove again.

"It's funny how things happen in life and how people react," James said. "It seems like a lot of people try to tell you what to do with your life and most of the time they don't even have their own life in order. That was just funny to me. So I'm really excited for this opportunity for this franchise, getting an opportunity to bring my game to this city."

Also threw this gem out there:

"We all understand this is the ultimate team sport," James said. "No one can win it all by himself. I know that by example."

Love it.

Actually, some stars can win it all by themselves. D-Wade went superman on the Mavericks in the finals.

LeBron just realizes he can't do it like Michael. He thinks it'll work now (duh) with a player who's better than him and another all star.

The best part of the interview was when he said he'll take the last shot of the game. Heat fans will realize what a fake glorified scam this guy is when they see him hiding behind Wade's cape when the pressure is on. It might not even strike you until the playoffs how this scum acts.

Hopefully he doesn't let his dancing do the talking this time.

"The game of basketball is fun," James said. "This summer has been probably one of the longest summers I've had, not in a bad way, but it's just been a long summer. The game will always be fun to me. I can't wait to get out to practice tomorrow. But it's all about business for me. It's less antics and more about the game of basketball. We're ready."

Good boy.

Wade had Shaq, LeBron had Mo.

EDIT: Maybe even more importantly, Riley for Wade, Brown for LeBron.

Still extremely butthurt I see. Look on the bright side, you guys will probably get Brandon Knight this year in the draft. Congrats!

LeBron only had Antawn Jamison, Mo Williams, Shaq, Delonte, etc....and may I remind you he chose Jamison over Amare because if we got Amare then he'd have pressure to win it all. But apparently guys like Melo and LeBron nowadays....how dare they lead a 50-60 win team with all-stars/veterans to a championship....no way, LeBron needs a top 3 player and a top 10 player if he wants to win it all. Just shows how badly he's sunk. Wade had Shaq when they won the title, but he was the guy who singlehandedly won the four straight games. He didn't have a top ten player with him. Shaq was good, but not top 10 then.

Now LeBron needs the team of all stars to win it all to the point where it doesn't make him look like a special talent anymore. Now he's the complimentary player. He's submitted to Wade's rule.

Are you guys still whining about who LeBron had as his teammates? I didn't see Iverson crying about it in 2001. The Cavaliers were built for LeBron, shooters and defensive players...the perfect ingredients for a slasher that has playmaking skills.

If LeBron won 60+ games all by himself, you might as well expect an 82-win season next year (and no, it won't happen).

Joel Anthony?

Seriously, LeBron's career playoff averages are 29.3PPG/8.4RPG/7.3APG. He led arguably the worst NBA Finals team...ever. He put up averages of 38/8/8 and had 2 absolutely DOMINATING clutch performances against the Magic in the 2009 ECF, yet those happened to be the only 2 games they won in the series. LeBron's Game 6 against Boston, where you say he "quit", would be considered one of the 5 best games for about 98% of the players in the league.

Just stop already. Please.

If LeBron won 60+ games all by himself

I think NBA history has proven that the regular season and the playoffs are a different ball game. LeBron won games as a supreme player with efficient role players, but he couldn't win a championship without a true second option.

No ones crying here but the opposing team fans it seems. Its getting pretty annoying to be honest. Like SRV said, I can't wait for this season to start.

Well, I can tell you right now that, if LeBron had went to the Knicks, and Wade followed him there, you'd be pretty pissed off also. You'd also be annoyed as hell seeing the Knicks on TV every night, turning on ESPN on September 27th (media day for many teams) and seeing what seems to be a championship post-game interview for the Heat.

Not only that, but then you hear fans say that the trio is going to win the next six NBA titles, and you hear that the core duo of LeBron and Wade are better than Kobe and Shaq.

Not to mention the one-hour long Decision special, the "championship" parade/concert/whatever that the Heat had to introduce LeBron and Bosh (something that took up room on NBATV), and guys like Leno and his late-night show, Steven Smith's radio show, my favorite radio station (in Tulsa), and every part of the basketball media basically making this team (or, more like the trio) media kings.

People get tired of the [expletive]. If they win it all, fine...throw a part everywhere. But the team has yet to play a single preseason game, and that's why 29 other team fans are completely shocked at the reception that seems to last days, weeks and months for absolutely no reason other than hype.

That's what's annoying.

Except it didn't happen so there's no point in debating that. Its been what? 3 months now? Its time to move on. If you haven't realized how ESPN does things by now then idk what to say.

I didn't even look at that thread but we don't even know who's better yet. As of right now its Kobe/Shaq by default because we haven't played a game yet.

Take up the issues about "The Decision" with Mav. It was his idea. Again, this is arguably the biggest superstar since MJ and with the media today you had to believe something like that was going to happen. The parade was over the top, even Riley admitted that. But you know the Knicks would've done something similar had they gotten the big 3 as well.

They were already media kings(well LBJ and Wade were). This just made it bigger.

[expletive], I'm tired of it already. There's not one Heat fan here who's been over the top about anything and I'm pretty sure we just wanna start the season. However, to think that a fan base wouldn't be excited about pulling the GOAT offseason in NBA history is ridiculous. I'm sure had LA done it you guys would be loving every second of it.

My point was made, and I'm sure most everyone (most every non-Heat fan) will agree. It's been three months? Yeah...but you sure couldn't tell, because the Heat seem to win an NBA title every other week.

You say, "I can't wait for the season to start." Well, in your post above, you make it sound genuine. In other posts, you make it sound like you can't wait for the Heat to win 70 games and an NBA title, and embarrass every team fan talking smack.

The little things aren't so annoying until they occur every single day. Personally, I don't hate the Heat because they are going to be crazy good (which I've admitted over and over again), I hate the Heat because they have turned into the most annoying team in the last ten seasons, probably more. Maybe other people hate the Heat because they will be good, that's not my problem and I think that's pretty ignorant, but you're sitting here telling us you can't wait until the season starts.

We can't wait, either.

If I told you that Lakers fans can't wait, though...well, you can make out the differences between the two statements, sort of like if I said that I can't wait for that Christmas game.

At the end of the day, when you talk about non-Heat fans being annoying, think about how many times they have to hear about your team, and how pissed off you would be if it didn't swing in your favor, despite what you say.

That's never been said out of the blue. You asked me specifically how many championships the Heat would win in the next 6 six years, and I said the Heat might be able to win all six under the right circumstances. There was another thread where a member asked who was better - Kobe and Shaq, or LeBron, Wade, and Bosh. I gave my honest opinion and backed it with facts and reasoning.

Very odd you'd leave the asking bit out, and only make it out to say that Heat fans in general are making wild claims out of nowhere and call the general lot "annoying" because of it.

Superstars like Kobe get media attention all the time. Don't tell me that you didn't expect double the attention when two are on a single team. The fans don't control the media, give me a break.

You mean without injuries? That's basically saying a healthy Heat team will win six consecutive rings, and dominate the world (or something).

There was another thread where a member asked who was better - Kobe and Shaq, or LeBron, Wade, and Bosh. I gave my honest opinion and backed it with facts and reasoning.

You stated that the Heat duo was better than a dynasty duo. Give all the reasons you want, make your argument as to why the 2004 Olympic team was better than every other team they played (remember, just add up the stats!), but it's still a ridiculous statement that ties in with this Miami Heat circus.

Very odd you'd leave the asking bit out, and only make it out to say that Heat fans in general are making wild claims out of nowhere and call the general lot "annoying" because of it.

I said fans, and I didn't say the entire fanbase. Five Heat fans, among a thousand, are still "fans" aren't they?

Superstars like Kobe get media attention all the time. Don't tell me that you didn't expect double the attention when two are on a single team. The fans don't control the media, give me a break.

That's not the point. I'm telling you why most are annoyed. And the only time Bryant got his media attention WITHOUT winning it all was when he was accused of rape. Aside from the 81-point game and the 62 in three against Dallas, the media didn't hang from his jock until he was winning championships again.

At least the Kobe, Shaq, Malone and Payton team had two three-time champions in it, that proved they could play together and destroy everyone in their path at full health.

But this is what happens...long, lengthy and worthless topics that, really, should have a page or less of posts in them. LeBron says the Heat will let their game do the talking? Is that why he's talking? Is that why he tweeted all of the nonsense he did about those "doubting the team" and talking trash? Is that why Wade compared losing two consecutive games to a national tragedy?

Maybe we (as in, most of the other 29 NBA teams' fans) can't wait until the playoffs start. Most teams are under a microscope. The Heat are going to be under a telescope, and loses are going to be hell.

In before, "We'll only have two losses so it won't matter."

I hope the rest of the site (those that know where I'm coming from) will just bail on these topics from now on, like I'm going to. Maybe for the entire season, with the exception of game topics.

Ah, and...by the way, hurry and turn it on ESPN. A special on the Heat are coming up after the commercials (and no, I'm not even kidding).
