Smitty
Earth-Like Planet Can Sustain Life Located in a solar system that parallels our own, the new world could be habitable -- or even inhabited. By Irene Klotz | Wed Sep 29, 2010 05:01 PM ET A new member in a family of planets circling a red dwarf star 20 light-years away has just been found. It's called Gliese 581g, and the 'g' may very well stand for Goldilocks. Gliese 581g is the first world discovered beyond Earth that's the right size and location for life. "Personally, given the ubiquity and propensity of life to flourish wherever it can, I would say that the chances for life on this planet are 100 percent. I have almost no doubt about it," Steven Vogt, professor of astronomy and astrophysics at University of California Santa Cruz, told Discovery News. The discovery caps an 11-year effort to tease out information from instruments on ground-based telescopes that measure minute variations in starlight caused by the gravitational tugs of orbiting planets. Planet G -- the sixth member in Gliese 581's family -- orbits right in the middle of that system's habitable region, where temperatures would be suitable for liquid water to pool on the planet's surface. http://news.discovery.com/space/earth-like-planet-life.html http://i51.tinypic.com/35n253b.jpg
Poe
Is it inhabited by Turians?
Smitty
Is it inhabited by Turians? LOL. Probably Salarians and Volus too.

Poe
"This system is not in an orientation such that this planet would ever transit, so unfortunately this is not a case where nature has thrown us a bone," Vogt noted. "That being said, it is so close and we have found this thing so soon that it suggests we will start finding a lot of these things in the future and eventually we will find systems that do transit. This is a harbinger of things to come." http://social.bioware.com/uploads_user/1587000/1586221/24975.jpg

Newman
20 light years away, okay. This means we got a back-up plan.

SRV
I would love if we found any kind of life form....hell, there might be another planet out there that is even better than us. Like a planet of super humans lol We think we are the only life forms, but how sick would it be if there are other forms of life, possibly better than us. Think of us as a laboratory experiment, where we are the mice, and they are the humans. The "grays" are also kinda like slaves to the more elite alien species. Ive heard stories that these superhuman can actually walk through walls, as the law of physics is obsolete/does not apply with them.

Flash
Sounds cool but when you think about it 20 light years is such a long way that we probably won't see anything done with this planet in our lifetime unless we develop some kind of hyper speed technology like in Star Wars. Smitty
What if they REALLY came across the same exact races like in Mass Effect(semi-serious lol) I can picture it now..Real Deal going to other planets to recruit more members for OTR. All of the sudden 200 Turian Laker fans join the site. A Salarian and Krogan become the new admins. ...then a Geth tries to hack us. But seriously..It's crazy knowing that we have made such progression in things like this. Imagine generations from now...people are moving to new planets and the population expands across the galaxy..and we come across other humanoid races and we learn to live with one another. ...to be honest that DOES sound like some Mass Effect type stuff. Kobe24
This is pretty badass. We need hyperspeed technology now. Go nasa go.
