La Bomba
DeMarre Carroll had a horrendous summer league, judging by two accounts that matter -- his own, and that of Grizzlies head coach Lionel Hollins. So Carroll and Hollins had a private meeting soon after the Las Vegas Summer League. They agreed Carroll needed to be around the Grizzlies' coaching staff more than working out on his own in the offseason. The end result is that Carroll, a second-year player out of Missouri, is off to a fast start in training camp this week. "It's not always about how much work you're putting in. It's what kind of work you're putting in," Hollins said. "We thought he didn't make any improvements and strides before summer league. But since summer league he has." The hands-on approach seems to have been constructive for Carroll and third-year power forward Darrell Arthur, both of whom are attempting to find their place with the Griz. Carroll hasn't had a clear role or position; Arthur's progress has been hampered by injury. They have a common goal this preseason. Carroll and Arthur, along with O.J. Mayo and Hasheem Thabeet, will be looking for the Griz to pick up contract options on their rookie deals by the end of training camp. http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2010/oct/01/arthur-carroll-seeking-right-fit/
Owner Real Deal Posted October 2, 2010 Owner Report Share Posted October 2, 2010 Man, Arthur has to find a way to contribute, like I know he can. In a way, I guess it's a good thing that he didn't get picked so high because everyone would be calling him a bust right about now, and that almost always kills a player's confidence. He just has to get on the court and stay out there, play a little more in the post, put on more weight (as in muscle), and give it his best as a solid backup four. He actually didn't do that bad in his first preseason. I remember watching him. I didn't get to see him last year, though.
La Bomba
Arthur is a really talented player, but at times he gets bullied in the post by bigger and stronger players, so putting on some wieght is a must. Injuries have also held him back from developing because he hasn't been on the floor consistently. There were times last year where he brought some great bursts of energy off the bench because he has such a unique skill set.
