Moss to Vikings?

The Minnesota Vikings are attempting to pull off their biggest blockbuster since acquiring Brett Favre.

FOXSports.com has learned that the Minnesota Vikings and New England Patriots have been in serious trade talks and are very close to a deal that would send All-Pro wide receiver Randy Moss back to the team that drafted him.

However, Patriots sources say the deal is contigent upon Moss working out a contract with the Vikings. All sides are still trying to hammer out the contract Tuesday.

In a 41-point outburst Monday night over the Dolphins, Moss caught zero passes, and he has made his displeasure known with his contract status in New England.

Moss, 33, was a first-round pick of the Vikings in 1998 and shined for several years before being shipped to Oakland in 2005. The four-time All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowl selection was traded from the Raiders to the Patriots on Day 1 of the 2007 NFL draft in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the ’07 draft.

On paper, I love it.

Remember that the Pats have a very young group of receivers with guys like Tate, Edelman, and Hernandez, plus they are armed with the Raiders' 1st round pick, so they could very well grab a Julio Jones, AJ Green, or choose a running back like Mark Ingram.

But, this is basically a signed confession from Belichick that they aren't trying to win the Super Bowl this year. Unless Sidney Rice is somehow involved in the trade, they're basically giving up on the season.

The question is, are they trying to go younger because they know this atrocious defense isn't capable of winning them a Super Bowl this year? Their future is extremely bright, but Tom Brady isn't getting any younger. I'm not saying he's going to fall off anytime soon, but you have to take every chance you can get at competing for a ring.

Favre to Moss? That's scary.

How much more scarier than Brady to Moss, though?

Then again, Favre won't hesitate to throw the ball deep. Crazy thing is, he can pretty much just THROW the deep ball and see who catches it, out of Moss, Jennings and Driver.

EDIT: I mean Harvin and Rice.

He won't be throwing to Jennings and Driver. They're on the Packers. He'll be throwing to Rice and Harvin.

Also, for all of you Chirs Johnson jockers, Peterson is going to absolutely rape now, so please head back in your corner.

I've been a big Randy Moss fan, and I still am. It's sad to see him go, but there's a few things to take note of with this trade:

1. There will be an 18 game schedule, and there will be expanded rosters. The Patriots have eight picks in the first four rounds, and are basically the only team that looks like they are thinking about the future, even though they care about the present as well.

2. They have some good young WR's in Brandon Tate and hopefully Taylor Price. The TE's have been superb so far and will only get better.

3. The Patriots are moving away from the division's strengths. The teams in the AFC East have very good CB's, so they are starting to use their TE's more to exploit the defensive weaknesses of those teams. Revis can do what he wants, but he sure as hell isn't covering Hernandez and Gronkowski.

Let's not forget Bellichek has won a few Super Bowls without stud receivers, but that was when the Pats had a dependable defense...so I'm sure they will focus on that during the draft and in the offseason.

I'm surprised, but its not out of the ordinary that the Patriots did this. This is a team that released their pro bowl safety and captain Lawyer Milloy on the eve of the regular season a few years ago.

Vikings are going for it all this season. They haven't offered Moss an extension, and I really do not see him sticking in Minnesota after this season.

sad day in New England. Now virtually this team is all young dudes with the exception of Faulk, Brady, and Welker. We are loaded in the 2011 draft also. But the superbowl days look long gone at this point.
