The Goods
The Denver Nuggets are on the verge of acquiring forward Malik Allen from the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Sonny Weems and the Walter Sharpe according to multiple sources close to the team. Allen gives the Nuggets another big-man who comes at a relatively cheap rate as he is scheduled to make just $1.3 million next season. The move will allow the Nuggets to get another much needed post player without having to dip into any of the Traded Player Exceptions the team currently owns. Flipping Sharpe and Weems into Allen makes sense for the Nuggets given the fact neither was likely to play many minutes for Denver next season. In Allen, the Nuggets get a veteran player who will be a nice insurance policy. Allen's pending acquisition doesn't mean Denver is done looking at other options, but it does ensure that the Nuggets will have more low post depth next season. Should the trade become official as it is expected to later this week, it will likely signal the end of free agent Johan Petro's tenure with the Nuggets. The Nuggets will lose a physically talented player but also a very one-dimensional player in Weems. While his athletic ability was readily apparent throughout summer league play last week in Las Vegas, he was inefficient and doesn't look NBA ready. His inconsistent performance in summer league likely sealed his fate. Sharpe was acquired last week in the deal that landed the Nuggets guard Arron Afflalo. Sharpe was never in Denver's plans and was more or less forced on the Nuggets as a condition of getting Afflalo from the Pistons. http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=13392 Edited July 24, 2009 by The Goods
xx.
They have no need for Sonny Weems right now but hes pretty underrated to be honest and he wont be a great replacement for Sessions, this guy will be a good fit off the bench, a good scorer, not bad. Multi-Billionaire
Not feeling it... I think we'd have been better off holding onto Weems but I guess it's really FO's chess and think he's the right fit. Bucks could have been squeezed more, they gave up RJ for scraps, surely we could do better than Allen... maybe Gadzuric or even Bogut if we gave up more. Universe
I thought Weems had the perfect chance to fill in that defensive gaurd mode and Malik is [expletive].
The Goods
Denver Deals Weems, Sharpe To Bucks For Allen The Denver Nuggets have agreed to deal Sonny Weems and Walter Sharpe to Milwaukee for Malik Allen, an NBA source said Tuesday. "Sonny is an athletic player that's got to learn how to play basketball," Nuggets coach George Karl told the Post during the summer league. "At times it looks like he's taking that step, and then at times it doesn't look like he's taking that step. He has 10 days here at summer league. He's going to have to figure out his niche. He's got the talent to play in the league. The question will be: Does he have the mind to play in the league? "I think, in general, this summer and September and October will be very important to him." http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/60719/20090722/denver_deals_weems_sharpe_to_bucks_for_allen/ Edited July 22, 2009 by The Goods
Bennei
Weems looked solid in the Summer Leagues. He played well along with Ty Lawson and he could be a good replacement for Dahnaty Jones coming off the bench. Last season he didn't get his chance but i thought that if something was to happen he could come in. I do see some potential in him and i would've liked it if he stuck around.
