Are pure point guards overrated?

Take a look at the starting point guards for the past 20 NBA championships.

2009-2010: Derek Fisher

2008: Rajon Rondo

2007: Tony Parker

2006: Jason Williams

2005: Tony Parker

2004: Chauncey Billups

2003: Tony Parker

2000-2002: Derek Fisher

1999: Avery Johnson

1996-1998: Ron Harper

1994-1995: Kenny Smith

1993: BJ Armstrong

1991-1992: John Paxson

The last time the starting point guard for a championship team averaged 8 assists per game or more (Avery Johnson was close with 7.4) was in 1990 when Isiah Thomas averaged a triple double. However, Isiah was most notably known for his scoring and penetrating ability, so you can hardly call him a pure point. Thoughts?

What exactly a 'pure point' is by your definition (you need 8+ apg?), and how people rate them to begin with. I don't think you can understate the importance of having a point that can competently handle the ball and play defense, but when you have a player like Kobe, LeBron, Wade, Duncan, you obviously don't necessarily need a ball dominant point.
