Nestle Snipes
It's never hard to locate Kwame Brown or Shaun Livingston these days at Charlotte Bobcats practice. Check the sideline or on the elliptical trainer or wherever head athletic trainer Steve Stricker is standing. It's not Brown's or Livingston's fault - every NBA player gets injured. But these ailments are particularly inopportune: The Bobcats used their mid-level exception to sign free agents Brown and Livingston as quick fixes at their weakest positions. Neither figures to start, but they were expected to add immediate depth at point guard (Livingston) and center (Brown). Neither has been healthy enough to participate in any of the team's preseason exhibitions. "I've been watching, getting the plays, but it's not the same,'' said Brown, who severely sprained his left ankle a week before training camp. "I'm going to have to go through it in live action'' to know what he's doing. It's tougher still for Livingston (sore left knee) because of the position he plays. A point guard must know when and where each new teammate wants the ball to best exploit his skill set. That's nearly impossible if you can't practice or play in the several weeks leading up to the Oct.27 season-opener in Dallas. Their situations are parallel, in that both injuries are aggravations of previous conditions and they need to be fast-tracked into Larry Brown's system. He looks way out of shape too, I loved his game in college but at this rate I'd be shocked if LB keeps him.
