Owner Real Deal Posted October 19, 2010 Owner Report Share Posted October 19, 2010 This is seriously amazing. I'm not going to embed this, because I want you guys to click on it and watch it in full screen...very important. One of the coolest things I've ever seen, honestly...not to mention, the lyrics are off the wall.

Nitro
Easily best rapper, lyricist, or whatever you want to call it. Best that ever did it. Eh...you could make a case I guess, but there is no way you can call him 'easily' the best. That's a slap in the face to the other best rappers, dead or alive, and I'm sure Em would say the same thing.

Owner Real Deal Posted October 19, 2010 Author Owner Report Share Posted October 19, 2010 Best lyricist of all-time, and I'm not sure if anyone could really argue that...but best rapper? I'm not quite sure.
Nitro
There no way that they were as clever as Eminem is with his rhymes. And there's no way Eminem has ever made anywhere near the same amount of songs they have at touching home upon serious cultural issues as Nas/Pac. While Nas joined up with Damian Marley to produce something TOTALLY innovative and new on Distant Relatives, which touched on many different issues (ranging from politics to basic life [expletive]), Eminem gave into the mainstream on Recovery. And while his lyrics (from a mechanical standpoint) and flow were tight, a good chunk of his content either didn't make sense, has been overdone to the max, or was direction-less. Besides dissing pop culture, his drug addiction, and Proof's death, what does Eminem have to talk about anymore? That's the single biggest problem he's had since around TES. The creativity he had when he first came up was top-notch, but he's worn out those subjects, and now a lot of what he has to say just seems....forced. Owner Real Deal Posted October 19, 2010 Author Owner Report Share Posted October 19, 2010 Besides dissing pop culture, his drug addiction, and Proof's death, what does Eminem have to talk about anymore? You listed those three, but you didn't list anything about his daughter, the mother of his daughter, his mother, his hardships, the media, paparazzi, tragedies, his own fans, the government, celebrities, the rap game, and many other topics he has driven his truck into through the years? I love Pac, but I'm sure he would run out of things to rap about if he were still alive, too, and there were a lot of things that were repetitive in his lyrics, and the same goes for all rappers. I love Pac, but I'm sure he would run out of things to rap about if he were still alive, too, and there were a lot of things that were repetitive in his lyrics, and the same goes for all rappers. He exhausted pretty much all those topics his first few albums. We had him mom, Kim, Haley, celebrities, how he makes kids go psycho and shrooms shoved down our throats on the SSLP/MMLP, and to a certain extent TES. Even though everyone eventually runs low on subject matter does not make what he is currently producing any better. More importantly, it's HOW he presents the subject matter which has really taken a step back. His music, not just lyrics or production, but overall music was extremely innovative and unique his first few albums. It was something new and refreshing, and he set the curve. Many of his songs had focused direction, and it was presented in a unique way (think along the lines of Guilty Consience, '97 Bonnie and Clyde, Stan, etc...). Now he just takes what's hot on the streets and spits a verse to break up the annoying choruses and current beats. The one song on Recovery that had a major spash of creativity, 25 to Life, was just a ripoff of one of the most famous rap songs of all-time (I Used to Love H.E.R by Common). And I'll be the first to say MOST rappers eventually run out of material, especially ones that rely on rapping about selling crack or [expletive]es and rims. But we are not comapring Eminem to the ordinary MC, we are comparing him to the Mt. Rushmore of rappers. There is no way of telling how Pac/Biggie/Big L/Big Pun would have continued their greatness, all we have is what they did make. And if you put their best up with Eminem's best, it is by no means a wash, and there are many fans out there that could make a reasonable arguement that their bodies of work was better than Em's. And when it comes to Nas, he's changed his style on almost every album, and he's touched on a wider array of serious issues as well as making music that is totally innovative (I Gave You Power, Rewind, the Untitled and Distant Relatives albums, etc...). I just thought you were leading into a conclusion that Eminem isn't arguably on that level, which is why I stated that he's the best lyricist, but not necessarily the best rapper. Nas can change his style, that's fine...but I know a lot of people that aren't so happy about it. We saw Eminem change a little, and I didn't like it. I'm sure Weezy disciples were pumping their fists when he decided he was going to dive into the rock scene, too, but it was garbage, in my opinion (although that change is a little different). I can't knock a rapper for not being able to change his style. Maybe you and I have two definitions of a change of style, though...but Eminem is best when he's unleashed and not holding back, speaking his mind through his music, taking out his anger. Pac was best when he related to others through his music. I welcome changes, but not those that make you feel as if you don't even know the person anymore. Nitro
Nas can change his style, that's fine...but I know a lot of people that aren't so happy about it. We saw Eminem change a little, and I didn't like it. I think Eminem's style mechanically has changed dramatically. He has reinvented his flow/rhyme patterns/general mechanics 4 different times IMO...Infinite, SSLP, TES, and Recovery are all very, very different, and if it wasn't for his voice and actual content you'd think they were 4 different rappers on those albums. Personally, above all else I feel that is why you could make a strong case for him being the best lyracist. He's the only rapper I know that can truly rip it any style in that sense. As for Nas changing his style, I agree it may not always be what the fans want, but in general he has some real hidden gems on those albums people don't talk about. He's always evolving, both mechanically and musically, and I applaud at how he attacks serious cultural issues now that he's been off the streets for nearly 20 years. I can't knock a rapper for not being able to change his style. Maybe you and I have two definitions of a change of style, though...but Eminem is best when he's unleashed and not holding back, speaking his mind through his music, taking out his anger. Well, when I think style I think of a few things- general rhyme mechanics, content, production and tone. And personally I thought Eminem was at his very best on the SSLP. It was just so unique and different, and he created so many visuals through the stories he told. He had some more serious stuff (like Rock Bottom), quirky stuff (like Brain Damage), and songs somewhere inbetween (Guilty Conscience). The production on that album was also AMAZING an fit his whole style/voice perfectly. That's my biggest issue with his new stuff...the choruses and production. Even though I wish he'd slow the pace down in many of his new songs (he just goes too quick sometimes, can't take in what he's expressing), and even though I question some of his content, his flow and lyrics are still top-notch. The production killed Recovery for me.
