A Knicks source tells the New York Daily News that the team would include Danilo Gallinari in a trade offer to acquire Carmelo Anthony.

Earlier reports stated that the Knicks are confident about obtaining a first-round pick to move to Denver in a potential deal for Anthony.

Melo would be a great addition for New York, and having to add Gallinari in the deal would suck for them, but they should do it even if that's necessary. He's a great player, and for Denver would be the replacement for Melo at small forward, so I'm guessing that's why they are asking for him in return. What do you guys think about the Knicks sending Danillo Gallinari in a package for Melo?

Thoughts?

Starting out, the idea for New York was to keep Danilo, but Denver wants him included. I figured the trade wasn't going to get done solely because of that.

The Knicks have no reason to complain, though. It's Carmelo Anthony. Gallinari isn't a franchise player, and the opportunity to form a trio of Melo, Amare and Felton should be the biggest reason to try and deal whoever they can to get that done.

I agree.

The Knicks would be nuts not to send Gallinari to Denver if it can land them Melo.

The chance of this actually going down is slim, talks about trading for Melo are so common nowadays.

I wouldn't be too down about it. The Knicks still have the best shot at it, if Denver decides they want to part with Melo by making him happy. Sort of depends on how the Nuggets and Melo go about all of this. He COULD be a force to reckon with until February, help the organization win as many games as possible, then request a trade again. Denver would probably deal him to whatever team he wished. Or, he could be a problem up until February, and Denver deals him to a desperate team that will take the chance (Golden State), yet offer less JUST BECAUSE they are taking the chance, and Denver settles for less.

The Knicks should still be leading the pack, though. Always a good thing, because the possibility that Melo stays in Denver after this season is slim to none, at this point.

Yeah, we're probably the team with the best chance of acquiring him, but the actually chance of it happening is slim. No matter who he plays for, he'll be putting on a show every night. If he really, really wants out of Denver he'll do what AI did a couple of years ago and hold out. They should at least get something for Melo, and not do what Cleveland did with LBJ.

If it takes Gallinari in order to get Melo, they have to do this.

The goal is to create a contender in NY, they have been in the gutter since Ewing retired. They need some hope in the city, Paul is already interested in the Knicks, Melo will be there, Tony Parker will be a free agent, and Rubio will be off his rookie contract soon and has expressed some interest in playing in a larger market. Hell I'll also say a guy like Deron Williams may push management harder if he doesn't like what he see's in Utah. There is not a single player more interested in NY as Melo, go get him now.

If Knicks land Melo, I'll be happy for Knicks... although I'd boo Melo.

Knicks had always been contenders in 1990s so it feels absent without the MSG piano in playoffs... I want to see them contend again.

Is it me or does Danilo intentionally play poorly in the preseason so far, so he doesn't get dealt? He's at least twice the player he's shown so far this preseason.
