no offense, but why do we still have the word censor? it lost 23-4 in voting. I think what we should do is drop the word censor, but make rules against racial slurs or excessive profanity. in other words, members would be allowed to use curses occasionally in their posts, but if they go overboard, they get banned for a few days.

Yeah the voting went against the censor because the reasoning behind keeping it the same was stronger/better that's why it was not changed. After all if it ain't broke why fix it?

I completely disagree. these are all the posts in the thread arguing against dropping the censor.

No. I believe it will be some people that will abuse it.

We do have a handful of mature users that wouldn't but there are those few bad apples who are waiting for something like this to happen

I say no because if you saw what I was really saying sometimes I would probably be banned

See I prefer the word censor because I don't have to censor what I'm saying. I can lay into someone with like 20 [expletive]s and it will slide, usually. However, with a word censor, I have to censor myself and try to keep the cursing to a minimum, so I dunno

I say no just cuz we don't need to change something that is not wrong.

I say you keep the word censor around, any amount of cursing can't reflect OTR well. It's not like it's a technical foul, it will not hold our emotional expression back haha.

it was really just you and two other people who opposed it; I couldn't even tell if STAT was serious. the arguments for dropping it were way stronger, and it showed in the voting. stronger arguments + more votes = not making the change, by your logic.

Dude, it really doesn't matter. It makes NO difference if there is a word filter or not. If I say the Lakers are the best [expletive]ing team in the world, you know what I just said regardless of the censor. Sasha Vujacic is a piece of [expletive]. Guess what word I used. It really doesn't matter.

The poll wasn't going to make the decision for me, it was just me asking a question.

If I made decisions based on the popular vote, we would be a wreck. I know of a site, right now, that was pretty popular when it was first put up...and members loved it because it gave you a chance to speak your mind, no censor, and it seemed to be fun. Big difference today, though.

I will never rule it out completely, and I'm still intrigued by the idea, but I'm not going to drop it because everyone else wants me to. I'm sure people want me to have an 18+ forum for nude pictures as well, but it's not going to happen.

That's completely different then using a word, IMO. It's alright, the word censor doesn't bother me as much as how small the sigs have to be.

I always found it odd how in some cultures like in America, there is actually a belief that seeing people without clothing is bad, or how people believe that there is such a thing as a "bad word".

I think it's similar to something I noticed about my dogs. Every time I feed them milkbones (type of dog treat) as a snack during the day, I usually have them eat it outside. One time I got lazy with feeding them dinner and I added those milkbones in their foodbowl inside. They actually took the milkbones out of their foodbowls, and asked for me to open the sliding door to go outside. It's like they have become so used to eating that particular dogtreat outdoors that every time they are fed it, they make the connection to bringing it outside, even though there is no reason to do so other than just becoming accustomed to it. ...unless you believe they are actually afraid of making a mess, which believe me, they have no problem doing.

I think there is a similar connection with this "bad word" stuff. Kids become so used to being told how bad it is by their parents, told not to say it in public, plus a bunch a other negativity around it, that they eventually become programmed to associate a particular word with it being "bad", even though there is no reason to believe that other than being accustomed to it.
