Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress revealed Monday that quarterback Brett Favre is in a walking boot and has two fractures in his left ankle.

Childress said an MRI exam showed Favre suffered an avulsion fracture and a stress fracture but will not require surgery.

Favre re-injured his surgically repaired left ankle in the third quarter of Sunday’s 28-24 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

He did not wear any type of walking boot or ankle support following the game, but he could not put any pressure on his left ankle as he tried to walk down steps from a stage following his news conference, according to NFL.com senior writer Steve Wyche.
