Besides, with so many scorers in the starting line-up, I imagine all he has to do is pass the ball around and play solid D. fish7718 Posted October 29, 2010 Report Share Posted October 29, 2010 Against Toronto Chandler proved he was better than Fields, in fact if Chandler plays like he did against Tornto all season I'll call him easily the most improved Knicks and he could be the 2nd best scorer on the team. That being said, our second unit, especially without Randolph, is weak, so it just make sense to have Landry who seems like a 3 pt specialist who grab boards at SG position start with the first team and bring Chandler off the bench. Last game he subbed in for Mozgov, which pushed Amar'e to the 5 and left Chandler at the 4. He saw time at the 2 and the 3. That kind of versatility, whoever struggles out of the gate gets replaced by Chandler and the rest of the lineup shuffles around. There are endless possibilities with a player who can go shooting guard and power forward all in the same breath. Not to downgrade Fields, he's been great ever since we picked him up. Plays hard, doesn't fatigue easily, shoots well and plays smart basketball. Landry Fields, KnicksWe all know Fields got off to a hot start, so when his 3-point shooting went south for a while, no one noticed. No matter. His 3-for-16 stretch in November appears to have been just a cold streak. He's made 8-of-19 3s this month, including an important 3-for-5 performance against Denver on Sunday. The great thing about Fields is his ability to contribute to his team's offensive game without making 3s. For instance, on his cuts to the rim, he uses patience when necessary, slowing down in the paint to give his teammate an extra second to find him. And he is a creative finisher, someone who's practiced tough shots around the rim thousands of times. Make no mistake, though, about his need to be an effective 3-point shooter. Because he does not have a dribble-drive game that will result in getting to the line a lot, his 3-point game will go a long way toward making him a truly productive and efficient scorer. He has a great set-shot release -- exactly how set shots should be taken, releasing on the way up -- and he's relatively smart about when to take them. He is shooting 34.4 percent from downtown now but is capable of being a 40 percent guy. 3. Nonetheless, great steal for the Knicks, and it looks like Fields is on his way to a very successful career. Also, last summer I predicted the Knicks would finish as an eighth seeded team, but probably the only reason I didn't predict them any higher is because I had no idea Landry Fields existed. The small but impacting elements he brings to the starting line up have been very important to the Knicks' success this year. I'm not too shocked at the way he's playing now (Fields), but when the season started, I was amazed to see him out there playing like a top three rook. AboveLegit Posted January 4, 2011 Report Share Posted January 4, 2011 Yeah Wall is struggling, he's somewhat healthy right now playing his usual minutes, but he just hasn't gotten his rhythm back. Knicks fans get the chance to understand the difference between Landry Fields and an Anthony Randolph that fans of other teams don't.
