And the Los Angeles Clippers couldn't make it from 6 or 16 or pretty much anywhere else on the floor. Jason Kidd's three-quarter-court heave at the end of the first half righted the Mavericks and sent them coasting through a second-half runaway as they slapped around the Clippers, 99-83, at Staples Center. The Clippers became the third consecutive team held to less than 40 percent shooting by the Mavericks. And they never came close to that plateau, making 34 percent from the field. The Mavericks might just be the best defensive team in the league if they can keep playing the Clippers, Bobcats and Grizzlies all season.
