fish7718
ESPNU 100 Norvel Pelle pops for St. John's ESPNU 100 power forward Norvel Pelle gave St. John's head coach Steve Lavin a verbal commitment on ESPNU's Recruiting Insider on Thursday. Pelle had narrowed his choices down to the Red Storm and Washington. "St. John's was like my home away from home," Pelle said. "Coach Lavin is like family to me and that's where I felt most comfortable. "It was like a heavy weight weighing me down," Pelle said of the recruiting process. "I'm flying like a bird right now." ESPN.com Recruiting Coordinator Reggie Rankin breaks down another huge commitment for Lavin and his staff. "Coach Lavin has done an outstanding job of getting kids to buy in to the tradition of St. John's and it shows with another top 100 commitment. "Norvel is a high level athlete who excels in transition and is an above the rim finisher. He's a good enough athlete to defend both forward positions and he's a guy that can really get up and down the floor. Plus he's a very active rebounder especially on the offensive end." Rankin added that Pelle is still a work in progress but the upside is tremendous. "Offensively he can knock down 12-15-foot jumpers but his game is still under construction. He needs to keep developing his skills and he has to be more consistent but the tools are there to be a tremendous Big East talent." Lavin went in to a familiar area for Pelle, Rankin noted. "Coach Lavin flexed his muscles again in southern California where he made a name for himself at UCLA. Adding Dwayne Polee (2010 signee) and Pelle proves that he still has the ability get kids to come across the country, which is no easy feat. "Steve has really put together a tremendous class in a short period of time and players have obviously taken notice." Pelle is the sixth ESPNU 100 recruit for the Red Storm, joining Jakarr Sampson, Maurice Harkless, Dom Pointer and D'Angelo Harrison along with Nurideen Lindsey Source Can you say back on the map?
