Amar'e Wants Knicks To 'Grow Up', Play With Urgency

Amar'e Stoudemire isn't accustomed to what happened at Madison Square Garden on Sunday night.

The Knicks were trailing by 18 points against the Rockets and fans started to boo the home team, headed for their fifth straight loss.

"It's definitely something that I'm not accustomed to. It's not fun," Stoudemire said. "We're a young team and we make mistakes but we can't keep doing the exact same thing every night. We just gotta find a way to grow up."

Stoudemire had 25 points and eight rebounds, but New York was outscored 14-4 in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter.

"I don't understand why we're not playing with the urgency. I'm not used to that," he said. "We're not playing like we're on a four-game losing streak, now five. We don't have that sense of urgency. It's almost as if it doesn't matter and it's not something I'm used to."

^I'd rather say that it sounds like a man who's very disappointed by the way we've been playing lately... Just like all of us Knicks fans I suppose. But it does not mean that he regrets his decision, let's not exaggerate.

He's pissed off that we ain't playing well now and wants us to get better, I like that, it means that he really wants us to win and didn't come here just for the money... I like this attitude and I hope that the other players will listen to what he said.

As I said in another post let's not rush into quick conclusions, the season is still VERY young, and we can play better than what we did so far, Amaré knows and he just wants us to wake up now.

I'm pissed off, just like every Knicks fan I guess, but I haven't lost my confidence in that team, we are honestly clearly better on paper than what we were those past years and I hope that we will reach our real level in a couple of weeks. I want to believe that we will. We'll just have to wait and see.

Sounds like a man who regrets his decision lol.

I don't think anyone regrets signing a 100 million dollar contract. Maybe he is mad they are losing? But regret? Nah...He is the face of the NY Knicks and probably already 100% more popular than he was in Phoenix.

Lol I read his quotes different but for the sake of being Knicks fans I would hope that what both of you are saying is right.... He is the face now and should show frustration when it's appropriate.

I never said he regrets the money, I was leaning more towards he signed only because of the money. :glasses:

Welcome to Chris Bosh's (old) life.

I wonder how long it will be until the media starts pointing out how [expletive]ty he is playing individually and he gets eaten alive by MSG like every other player has. But like Guru said, what the hell did he expect? This is a borderline playoff team at best, and Amare is just proving he isn't the superstar his fanboys (ECN) thought he was. He is a tremendous second option, though.

To be honest I might have agreed with a statement like this a year ago. But with everything I have heard from Amare it seems he genuinely wants to win, the money was always going to be there for him. It seems like he would have stayed in Phoenix if they offered the money, but I don't think they ever did. The Suns are cheap, it is why their GM resigned, they ruined that team in a single off-season.

He could have gotten more money in Phoenix...

False. While they were capable of offering more through their birds (like Joe Johnson) they didn't even offer him fully guaranteed money. I remember Amare saying he didn't want a football contract or something like that. If Phoenix had offered him the full max, like they should have, the Knicks would have had to have maxed Carlos Boozer lol.
