Interesting Obeservation -- Racial Double Standard?

When Tom Brady is yelling at his teammates he is a good leader, great competitor, a guy who wants to win.

When Terrell Owens is yelling at his teammates he is a distraction, a selfish player, a guy who doesn't care about his team.

Hmm...

It has nothing to do with race, they look at Rivers doing it in a negative light. It's your rep, not your skin color.

Possibly, there's an exception to every rule and people do hate Philip Rivers , I still think it's pretty sad though.

Brady's a good guy with a long history of winning, Rivers and Owens the opposite. I think perceived intent is the difference.

Is Brady a good guy? He is certainly painted as a good guy, but do you know he is actually a good guy? I'm not saying he isn't but the media made Michael Jordan look like a good guy too. Rivers might be a punk on the field, but does that mean he isn't a good guy off the field? Same for TO? I think the media can pick and choose who they want to be villains and heroes and people will eat it up.

Brady has three rings. TO partly destroyed three teams during his tenure in SF, Philly, and Dallas, and he's all about himself. Self-promotion.

All about himself? His motives, according to him, were he wanted to win. He believes in his mind that if he gets the ball they will win, thus he wanted to ball. Besides the point though, this isn't about what happens Tuesday-Saturday, in the news paper and on ESPN, this is about what happens on the sideline when the team needs to fired up. TO goes out and gives 110% every Sunday. Who cares about rings and wins, yelling at your teammates is yelling at your teammates whether you are Jeff Garcia or Terry Bradshaw.

It's not really a race issue. T.O. is a moron. Brady's teammates love him, he has credibility with 3 SB rings. Plus it's completely different as the Quarterback.

Is it completely different? Aren't we supposed to praise players for being leaders at positions like WR?

I don't know if Brady has a hidden skeleton in the closet and likes to touch little boys, or if Rivers and T.O. take mission trips in the offseason and are great human beings... But the opposite is true on the field, and that's why a perception of the players yelling at teammates is different.

There's a difference between "throw me the [expletive]ing ball" and "finish your [expletive]ing routes".

I don't think so at all. T.O. gets that rep because he comes across as a diva WR who only cares about himself. I think he just wants to win more than anyone but he goes about showing it the wrong way sometimes. No racial double standard here at all IMO.

How did he get that rep tho? Guys don't risk their career by going all out on surgically repaired ankle before it's fully healed because they care about themselves.

Really? Brady takes the attitude of his coach and they both strive for perfection. His players weren't finishing routes so he went after them. Why do you think they bounced back and blew the steelers out after being embarrassed by the Browns. I bet it had a lot to do with Brady's leadership at practice. He said he felt embarrassed and definitely showed.

If TO didn't take so many shots at his QB and coaches in public, didn't taunt everyone like he does, didn't become a drama queen...things would be different.

You say Jordan was praised. Jordan is black.

It has absolutely nothing to do with color. Tom Brady leads his teams to championships. TO doesn't.

An even better example is Vick, who did everything wrong to become one of the most hated players in the NFL (the dude even flipped off fans, which is minor compared to the dog-fighting), yet now he's being praised for his play, considered an MVP candidate, and his attitude is completely different. Even his play, which he improved significantly, is different.

Vick isn't white.

He would take a step back and let Kolb start without lashing out at Andy in a presser. Would TO react to being benched for a half, let alone a few games? Not a chance.

TO isn't even in Brady's realm.

I love T.O. and he is an absolute beast, but I don't get how you can wonder why he has the reputation he does.

He's feudded with all of his QB's, called his QB a [expletive], and has done numerous other distracting things.

Really just offering food for thought and trying to spark discussion in this thread.
