Either way, the former President of the United States turned up on a film set in Thailand last week to be filmed for a cameo in the sequel to a movie about a drink and drug-induced amnaesia on a stag night in Las Vegas, Nevada, that grossed $277 million in the US alone.

 

Photographs of Mr Clinton arriving at the set amid tightened security were posted on the internet at the weekend. He will appear with Liam Neeson in The Hangover Part II, coming to cinemas in May, two years after the first instalment reminded Hollywood that few comedy sub-genres are more assured of an audience than that of young men behaving extremely badly.

 

Will the addition of an older man help? Details of the storyline, and the former President's role in it, have so far been kept under wraps. All that is known of the cameo is that Mr Clinton, who was impeached on charges of obstructing justice after his affair with Monica Lewinsky, plays himself.

 

The film's other principal actors include Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Justin Bartha, who have made their names and fortunes almost entirely as big screen reprobates.
