magicbalala245
“We’ll just have to short up a little bit here for the next month and put it together,” Jackson said. “We’ll look at some outside talent and see what’s available out there to help us out, but there’s nothing we have that guarantees we can bring in somebody to fit in.” One name the team has tossed around already is Erick Dampier. The 6-11, 265-pound center is 35 years old and looking for a team after a 14-year NBA career when he averaged 7.8 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game with Indiana, Golden State and Dallas. Due to the Theo Ratliff injury Lakers are considering this. Should they sign this guy. Edited November 17, 2010 by magicbalala245
Owner Real Deal Posted November 17, 2010 Owner Report Share Posted November 17, 2010 No. If Phil gets this guy motivated and back into shape, it'll be one of the most amazing accomplishments of his coaching career.
Newman
I don't think they need anyone, to be honest. Bynum will come back soon enough to rescue them and they would be better off playing Gasol and LO more minutes while using Barnes at the 4 at times. They still got Caracter too. Nitro
It's really not needed. Even without Ratliff or Bynum they still have somewhat decent size with Gasol and Odom (who rebounds like an elite PF) starting, and Caracter/Ebanks off the bench as well. I don't see the need in bringing someone in who could potentially disrupt chemistry as essentially a one-month rental.
Owner Real Deal Posted November 17, 2010 Owner Report Share Posted November 17, 2010 They are concerned about Odom's injury, actually.
Newman
^In that case, they might as well sign some bigs to 10-day contracts and let Caracter play more. EDIT: Never mind, can't sign 10-day contracts. Then I guess Dampier would be a good choice. Edited November 17, 2010 by Newman
Owner Real Deal Posted November 17, 2010 Owner Report Share Posted November 17, 2010 I'd rather look for someone else. Dampier is a waste right now. When the worst teams in the NBA don't even want him for the vet's minimum, there's something wrong, and I don't want a lazy POS on this team. N.1.A.K.
i actually think its good. another healthy body to give Gasol 10 minutes of rest a game wont hurt. as long as they don't play him 25-30 minutes a game then its fine. plus it would be nice to have something to fall back on if another SHOCKING injury to Andrew Bynum happened.i mean lets be honest... if news broke in 30 minutes that Bynum needed another surgery... how shocked would you be? thats how i felt with Oden at least... wasnt really surprised at all... and i'd feel the same way with Bynum. EDIT: at least sign the guy... if he can help then let him help. if he can't help then sit his [expletive] on the bench or cut him Edited November 18, 2010 by N.1.A.K. Doc
I'd rather look for someone else. Dampier is a waste right now. When the worst teams in the NBA don't even want him for the vet's minimum, there's something wrong, and I don't want a lazy POS on this team. I don't think thats the case. With the Raptors,it would just be taking away minutes from players who are developing. If we aren't going to win now, we might as well use this time and give it to Johnson, Dosrey, Bargs and soon Davis and able to let them grow while time isn't a factor. Dampier would just be a waste for the Raptors but would be valuable for the Lakers. Seeing that Theo is out for a few weeks, Odoms injury, and Bynum not ready til Christmas. He has the toughest, size, and defense the Lakers are needing. Instead of giving the time to rookies, I think Dampier would be really good for the Lakers 10-5 mpg.
