Jason Richardson wants a contract extension from the Suns.

Richardson is set to become an unrestricted free agent.

"I'd love to get something done (with my contract), get it out of the way, so I don't have to do that this summer. That's my hope," Richardson told FanHouse Thursday night.

"But nothing serious is being talked about at this point. A contract year can be a distraction, so I'd rather avoid that and just get something done."

So what do you say? Do we offer him an extension? If so, how much?

There's no doubt that Phoenix should give him an extension for the reason that Newman just gave, they can't lose anymore weapons. Richardson is one of the only guys they have who can create his own shot effectively, and they can't lose that. $7-8 million sounds about right for him to me as well. He's definitely earned it so far this year, and I expect to see something get done in the next couple weeks.

I don't know how much because I'm not really good with salaries but Suns should make sure to not spend too much on him and try to get a good big man during the summer or even right now. I'm not surprised that he wants to get an extension. he loves playing with Steve Nash who gets him so much open looks every where on the court but on the other hand, I think he should try and find a winning team, an elite team that will finally get him a ring. Playing with Nash though so I understand the logic here :)
