Randy Shannon Fired

There's only about 5 trusted insiders when it comes to UM, 3 of them post on the Scout boards and yesterday all 3 confirmed that he signed.

I wouldn't call someone posting on the scout.com forum an "insider". But... maybe.

King tweeted that the rumors sounded fraudulent and he'd update if he learned anything... Then followed it up with what I posted above. Have to believe the Gruden thing was not real.

The Patriots have nothing to do with this, but keep trying to bring them in every conversation.

...I don't bring them into any conversation, typically. Could hardly mean less to my everyday life.

That was your opportunity to explain your hate for King. But... I guess defending the Pats honor took precedent

These guys are money, 99% of the time. They told us about the Shannon dismissal 4 hours before it happened Saturday night and were very consistent with their stuff yesterday. Peter King has no ties to Miami, no inside info when it comes to this program either.

Again we'll see but it looks like the admin. is looking to make a big splash with this hire. That alone gives me hope that we'll be good again.

Peter King has ties to all things football, and inside info when it comes to Jon Gruden. He has infinitely more sources than your scout.com buds, who correctly predicted a bad coach being canned after a bad season... shocker

Look, I'll leave it at that. Posted a tweet from an incredible NFL source, hit me up if you get something similar.

And I'll be here to eat crow if Gruden is a Hurricane.

I understand where you're coming from. I guess you just have to post there to know these guys and their info I guess.

I understand. Just saying that when Peter King states something as fact, he is usually right. He wouldn't put his reputation on the line over some questionable sources. He's been in this business long enough to know what he is doing.

But you are right, anything can happen.

Dan LeBatard is now saying that Gruden was offered but has said no. We'll see but as of now it looks like Gruden isn't coming. Oh well.

Gus Malzahn or Dan Mullen from here. I'll be very, very disappointed if they don't at least interview them.

Take Richt from Georgia, I would love to see the Bullpuppies suffer even more!!

No thanks. Only as a OC seeing how he's run that program basically into the ground.

More Gruden talk coming now. Apparently he really wants Jim Leavett as his DC which would cost us some more money. Apparently the Dolphins are ponying up some money for the U because of the stadium deal and the money that can be made with Miami being good again.

Talks are definitely going on.

lol @ Miami firing a guy who had the third highest graduation in D1 football (behind Army and Navy) and has his team ranked top 25 before the year. LMAO at people calling it a good move. People need to get their priorites straight, Shannon cleaned the U, I can't wait for them to hire some [expletive] like Carroll who will over run the orginzation with violations, oh well at least the team will be good right?

Just goes to show what is really "important" these days. Pretty sad, eh?

Sorry, but fans don't really give the slightest care whether or not their athletes graduate. That isn't what brings the university the big bucks athletically. They want their team to win. Do you honestly think guys like Demarcus Cousins, John Wall, etc. went to Kentucky for the education they will be receiving? A bunch of athletes wouldn't even get accepted to these schools if they weren't given athletic scholarships in the first place. It's the sad part of college sports, but it's also the truth. Coaches aren't given extensions or bigger job offers for graduation rates, it may affect it, but it's one of the last things that comes into consideration.

I agree, fans don't care, however it is on the university to care. Miami has made it clear they obviously don't. Comparing basketball to football isn't totally fair, especially when your comparing Wall and Cousins who are just using college as launch pad into the pros. However the reality is, a lot of these football players aren't going to the pros, it's on the university to ensure their players lives aren't ruined because the college wanted to use them for 4 years of their lives. I understand what your saying, I'm just saying I'm disappointed by this move.

Have you followed Miami at all since 2001? Larry Coker cleaned up the U, not Randy. Coker had the fight, which wasn't a good thing but most of his kids graduated as well. Coker's downfall was bringing in horrible players with terrible attitudes. Now, I love Randy and was a supporter of his for as long as I could because he's a true Cane. But he just wasn't getting the job done on the field. Donna Shalala has made it a point to make academics a top priority, not only that but we don't know how Gruden will do in that category. I imagine he'll do just fine.

You can definitely have both at the collegiate level.

Jim Leavitt would be a quality hire alongside Gruden. Gruden knows what he's doing, that'd be a fantastic hire for The U. I'd also hope he'd keep Whipple's play action schemes in his playbook or keep Whipple himself in the fold.

Love Leavitt as a DC, not a HC. I definitely think he'd be great next to Gruden. Whipple is gone, if Gruden comes in I've heard his brother, Jay, will be the OC.

Only coaches who I've heard are possibly safe are DL coach Rick Petri, S&C coach Andreu Swasey and OL coach Jeff Stoutland.

Just because you clean up the program doesn't mean you can be mediocre. Winning is equally and or more important.

it isn't like they're last in their conference and not making a bowl game or anything. they have a winning record and have been ranked several times this year. I think what really killed Shannon though is a loss against FSU and USF in the same year.

Always follow the money.

Colleges don't care about A's, they care about $'s.

So I'm guessing the Gruden to Miami isn't going to happen?

Was just about to post that IT IS happening.

Front page of Canesport.com.

/Please God let this happen!

Also, in regards to Shannon, losing to USF is unacceptable at Miami. Flat out.

According to Jorge Milian of the Palm Beach Post, quoting a BOT member, we will get a definite answer today

The main highlights of the article are:

1. Both sides have reached a level of understanding on a contract (4 or 5 years)

2. Language is being ironed out whereby UM is protected financially if Gruden bolts for the NFL within the first or second year

3. Budget for assistants and support staff still need to be negotiated

4. Gruden's role on MNF; apparently UM is willing to let Gruden complete the NFL season

5. If Gruden falls through, then Mullen is our next target
