Cobb
FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU has accepted a bid for full membership to become the 17th member of the Big East Conference, effective July 1, 2012. "Having BCS automatic-qualifying status was a priority for our football program and a great reward for the success we've had the last decade," TCU athletic director Chris Del Conte said in a statement. The conference change allows TCU to play in an automatic BCS-qualifying league beginning in the 2012-13 school year. TCU currently plays in the Mountain West Conference, which does not have an automatic bid to the BCS and is going through some changes of its own. BYU and Utah are leaving the conference just as Boise State enters. TCU, which has an enrollment of 9,142, would become the Big East's ninth football team. The conference has extended an invitation to Villanova to become its 10th football member.Great move for both sides. Geographically, it makes zero sense though. JYD
It is a good move for both sides. Football wise, TCU needs this but I think the Big East even more.
Guru
So....I hate TCU now?
Cleveland's Finest
The Big 12 should've invited them, it wouldve made much more sense. I'm always going to be confused when I hear TCU and Big East in the same category.
La Bomba
So this basically dismisses any chance Memphis previously had to join the Big East. Doesn't make sense at all geographically as mentioned before.
Cobb
So....I hate TCU now?You probably should. Once they join, they'll easily be favorites to win it.
The Great iBoldin
I don't really think the Big East cared about demographics or general geography here, the motive was to get better as a football conference and they did that in adding one of the best non-AQ programs in the Country. It's a great move for the football program and both TCU and the Big East needed this. Instant credibility to the two sides. With the Big East potentially sending UCONN to the BCS, you know there may be a problem.
Guest STL10
The Big XII should get Houston and Rice. They would be more balanced at football, basketball, and baseball if they made that move.
Lkr
They should have gone to the Big 12, and the Big 12 should have invited them.
Guest STL10
They should have gone to the Big 12, and the Big 12 should have invited them. I recall the Big 12 wanted to try running with 10 teams for 2 years before considering inviting 2 teams to their conferences... I'm not sure if that's true though.
