ChosenOne
Kevin Martin is the best player/scoring option on our team right now and he only averages to get up 15 shots pergame. Yeah he gets to the line often (and converts shooting 90%) but I would like him to get the ball more and get up a few more shots. I think if we can manage to get him about 5-6 more shot per game we would be a much better team and our chances of pulling out close games would also increase. He also needs to get the ball more in late game situations, for example the game that we won against the Thunder we had a 6 or 7 point lead with 3 minutes left and he did not touch the ball for the entire three minutes. We got four possessions in those three minutes and were not able to get a single point up. Luckily we won because Durant missed the game winning freethrow line jumper but honestly should have lost that game due to our poor execution down the stretch. I will try to stay up with this the best I can along with posting my thoughts after every game I can actually sit and watch.

This game was not his best night shooting the ball (especially the first half), but was still able to make a difference with his attacking as he did get to the line 5 times hitting all 10 attempted free throws. Martin leading the Rockets with 22 PTS in a W against the 2 time defending champs LA Lakers. Edited December 21, 2010 by ChosenOne

Martin tied Lowery with a game high 28 point [expletive]ting over 50% of his shots, converting on 5 out of his 6 shots from beyond the arc, and getting to the line 5 times converting on all 9 freethrows . Martins biggest weakness in his game is defense and tonight he even played solid on defense as starting shooting guard Xavier Henry was held to 8 points and backup shooting guard OJ Mayo was held to 3 points on 1-5 shooting. More importantly we won and now are on our second two game winning streak of the year and have won 4 out of our last 6, hopefully we can build forward from here. I did not like the move because it really hurt us offensively mainly due to the fact that Chase (1-11 fgm-a 1-7 3pm-a) cant hit a shot to save his life, and Chase was having trouble staying up with Korver (13 pts) off of screens. Hopefully he can get more playing time next time around as he is our best player. Also on a side note why was he not in when we need the second OT forcing three pointer? He is only [expletive]ing shooting 42% from three. Edited December 21, 2010 by ChosenOne

Instead of Martin Rick decides to play Lee who is a much better defender but lacks on the offensive end going 0-4 in 22 minutes, and Chase Budinger who cant do anything on offensive or defensive. Rick benching Martin in at the end of games is really getting to, and I hope it changes real soon. ChosenOne
http://i56.tinypic.com/261p9vt.jpg Dec 10 @ MIL L 91 - 97 23 PTS 5 - 13 FGM-A 1 - 4 3PM-A 12 - 13 FTA-M Kevin Martin scored 23 points against the Bucks leading the Rockets and a point behind the game leader (Bogut - 24). He played well but it was in no way a perfect game has he did miss a couple of wide open shots and a couple of shots that were not wide open but still should have been made. In the first he played 9 minutes and and scored 9 points, but for some reason he was benched for the next 12 completely cooling him down and taking him out of rythem on the floor. The Rockets as a team started off very slow, but fortunately Martin was able to get into rythem and was able to keep us in the game scoring 9 points and was subbed for a break when we were down by 2. Fourth he once again was sat for over 7 minutes, and was put into the game when it was a bit to late and we were down double digits. Hopefully Rick will learn not to sit him for huge periods of time. His first half play was nothing less of amazing he was attacking the rim scoring when he could and kicking it out when he could not. He only had one assist closing the first but should have had aroung 4-5 as Martin did find Battier open who missed a couple of shots and Scola also also missed one and got fouled on the other. In the second he was subbed in at the 6 minute mark and continued to do the same as he found open Lowery outside who made the smarter play twice swinging the ball to open shooters for open shots; all started by Martins drive and kick. Second half it was much of the same but he did cool down a bit missing a couple of open shots. He also did not play much in the 4th as the game was well out of hand by then. In the first he had 12 points 4-9 fgm-a 2-3 3pm-a 2-2 ftm-a and lead the Rockets in scoring. In the second he came out flat. He really could not get enough into his shot as a couple good looks from deep hit the front of the iron, and bounced off. In this third he also attacked the rim a couple of times also hoping to get fouled but was not able to get the call, which lead to a steal and a dunk and a semi wild missed shot. Fortunately we really did not need him much in the second as the rest our the team was playing well and we were able to open up a good enough lead to sit the starters for most of the fourth. Over all an ok game for Martin. Edited December 21, 2010 by ChosenOne

He got us off to a great start as we went for 34 in the first and held a 21 point lead that the Grizzlies just could not over come. Martin over all had a good second half but as expected did not get the minutes due to us holding a solid lead. htown11
This is great stuff ChosenOne. Last night was impressive, Kevin outscored the Grizzlies all by himself in the first. It just shows how effective the guy is when you get him open and run plays for him. Kevin will find a way to get a point whether its making a normal jump shot or drawing a foul and shooting free throws. Rick talked about his performance after the game saying if Kevin plays as aggressive as he did in the first then he is the legit go to guy. It was almost as if Rick was basically saying he doesn't keep that hunger alive long enough for me to look at him as a leader when he's got the tools to do it. Second off I think Rick is correct to a certain extent, but you also have to consider the way Rick plays Martin. There are some games where Martin is sat for 9-12 minutes at a time completely taking him out of rythem. Then there are games where Rick takes him out just when he is getting into the flow of the game. If you want the dude to be a leader, play him like a leader Martin should be playing as many minutes as any of our starters not the least. The second half was a quite one for Martin as after hitting his first three pointer he would go on to missing his next 3 shots and turning the ball over twice. Fortunately Rick kept him in the game as it was right under the two minute mark when Martin converted on a three-point play to give the Rockets a 98-93 lead. Martin lead all scorers with 22 points. He was effective with the ball just about all game long and was forcing the defense to blanket him. He shot well today outsides of a couple open shots (late in the second) I believe he should have hit, but then again he did have to find his rythem again as he was sat for over 9 minutes...again. He was also passing well today, the sats dont really show it (3 assists) but he was passing well all night long. The scond half was much of the same as he continued to attack, and score when the chances arose. He ended the night with 30 points, 13 of which came from the line. Martin should have had alot more from the line but the refs were completely terrible tonight by not giving him a single call, but that has seemed to be the story the last couple of games. Martin ended the night with 30 points leading the Rockets. Edited December 21, 2010 by ChosenOne

In the first half he seemed to have trouble keeping his dribble, he was losing the ball left and right on attacks but fortunatley he was able not to resist turnovers as he ended that night with only 2 turnovers. The third quarter was a bit of the same as he was able to get a basket here and there, as he did not play many minutes. The fourth though was different as he was subbed back in around the 8 minute mark. Right away him and Gordan started playing a bit harder seeing that the game was very close and getting near the end. Martin fortunately was able to get the better of him as he was able to get a big one on one floater to go around the 6 minute mark. Moments later he was able to get an offensive foul called as Bledsoe set a hard illegal screen (a bit acted but Martin is known for that), then a minute later Martin came off a screen and hit a huge three pointer right in Gordans face. He also would go on to end the game with 6 clutch free throws at the end.

Thanks again man. K Mart dropped 20pts on 7-16 shooting wasn't really a huge night for him and the Rockets struggled to get to the line early. Went 3-5 in the first got off to his normal quick start. Took 2 shots in the second made both but relatively quiet as were the other Rockets except Jordan Hill who really played well. Missed all three shots he took in the 3rd. Then Adelman basically sat the guy till late in the 4th but had to since he really wasn't being all that aggressive. Adleman truly had one of his best coaching nights tonight, went with his gut feeling and put the right guys out at the right time. Brought K Mart in midway through the 4th and K Mart drew a hard foul made his free throws and also made a huge 3 on a pass from AB to basically ice the game. Not a spectacular night but still took care of business. Edited December 29, 2010 by ChosenOne

But as the second half came around he did pick it up a but as he was able to put in about 10 points in the third looking to attack every time he got the ball. The fourth was also ok with him scoring wise. The thing that I did not like from him performance was the traveling calls two of them to be exact. It is not that they are uncharacteristic of him as he does average over 1 traveling call a game, but the timing of them last night was imo particularly bad, it seemed like just when the team and Martin were getting into slight rhythm he would manage to get one and slow us down. Also WTF was up with his free throws last night? 6-10 are you serious? he really could not have found a better game to chuck up brick from the line? lol

He managed to put in another 7 points in 9 minutes and then was sat for the rest of the night as the game was well out of hand by then in the Rockets favor. I really believe he was the reason we lost tonight as everyone played well (bench put in 35, Lowery went for 21, and Scola for 24) and did their part except for Kevin who has decided to stay in Houston during this back to back. We play Portland again Wednesday hopefully he shows up this time around.
ChosenOne
http://i55.tinypic.com/307usno.jpg Jan 05 vs. POR L 100 - 103 45 PTS 13 - 18 FGM-A 6 - 8 3PM-A 13 - 15 FTM-A Kevin Martin had a great game but unfortunately it just was not good enough as the rest of his team decided to not show up. Kevin also had a weak 4th as he did not make a feild goal after the 10 minute mark. After not showing up for the prior 2 games Martin decided to show up but unfortunately his team felt him out to dry.
ChosenOne
http://i56.tinypic.com/2coir7l.jpg Jan 08 vs. UTA L 99 - 103 20 PTS 6 - 15 FGM-A 0 - 3 3PM-A 8 - 10 FTM-A Kevin Martin had a decent game against the Jazz but like the rest of the team just could not get his deep range shots to fall as he went 0-3 from beyond the arc (team 3-22). Martin imo played well but when you have no body around you making plays there really is not much you can do outside of forcing it to say. We had a great lead but as usual we ended up blowing it due to coming out flat to start the third.
