TORONTO -- Chicago Bulls center Joakim Noah is likely to miss eight to 10 weeks due to ongoing issues with his right hand, according to a source. The team is expected to make the announcement official within the next 24 hours.

Noah is expected to undergo surgery to repair torn ligaments in his thumb, according to the source.

Noah was in the starting lineup Wednesday against the Toronto Raptors despite the injury.

The Bulls had been concerned there may be ligament damage in his right thumb, according to sources familiar with the situation. Bulls general manager Gar Forman told ESPNChicago.com before Wednesday morning's shootaround that the Bulls are still evaluating the situation and Noah will be re-examined once he returns to Chicago on Thursday.

This is really... horrible news. I mean, he's their best defender and grabs around 10 rebounds per game. Loosing him is loosing a strong body in the paint that hustles a lot and is the heart of this franchise with Rose. 10 weeks is A LOT. Hope he'll come back sooner.. for now.. Boozer and Taj have to step up
