Owner Real Deal Posted December 16, 2010 Owner Report Share Posted December 16, 2010 Yao Ming with another stress fracture in his left ankle. Not in same bone, but same ankle. Wondering now if he'll ever return. #hounews Previous tests did not show the fracture. MRI on Thur showed the injury. Might have happened compensating for sprain. He had no idea yest. Yao said the obvious in summer. If can't stay healthy, can't keep playing. Is it over? #hounews

You think so? Popularity, true...but on the court, I don't think he was that close. The injuries made sure of that. Next to Ralph Sampson and Christian Laetner, Yao Ming has to be the biggest dissapointment in the history of the league.

Check my Stats
Poor Yao, hall of famer? Was probably the best C in the NBA over the past 8 years close between him and shaq. Yao was only the best Center from like 06 to 08 lol.
ChosenOne
Saw it coming when he first got hurt, it was only a matter of time untill everyone was told. At least now we can move forward as a team and as an organization. Not surprised by this one bit.
htown11
No surprise not angry about it at all, I am more sad for Yao. Great guy, not one day did he not work hard to be the best player he could be you don't wish for this type of stuff to happen to such a good guy.

Nitro
Yao was only the best Center from like 06 to 08 lol. Yep, and in those seasons he missed about 30% of his games. Anyways, this is horrible, I love watching Yao. When he's healthy, he's the best post scorer in the league, and one of the league's elite big man. He has always had a great passion for the game, worked his [expletive] off to be the best he could be for his team, and has always stayed humble. It's a damn shame.

YugoRocketsFan
Man, now I regret having to be the one to deliver the bad news. The entire site is depressed. Well Rockets fans are the most effected about this and most of them just want to move on from the Yao era. Dash
HOUSTON - An MRI performed Thursday on Rockets center Yao Ming revealed a stress fracture in his left ankle that will leave him unable to play indefinitely. The fracture, which is related to his previous injury of the tarsal navicular bone, developed during the course of his rehabilitation program. The fracture affects the medial malleolus of his ankle. "This is very sad," said Leslie Alexander, Rockets' owner, in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. "This is a very disappointing moment in the history of the Rockets organization, for our wonderful fans, for the city of Houston and for everybody in our organization. I feel terrible for Yao. "I know how generous in his feelings he has been toward me and the players on the team. It's so difficult to recover quickly from injuries that sap away your premier players like Yao and (former Rockets guard) Tracy (McGrady), but we will do our best to come back as quickly as we can." Alexander used this moment to reach out to the Rockets' fans. "I feel bad for the fans of Houston," Alexander said. "They're great fans and not to able to see the best center in the NBA play for a long while must be heartbreaking. "Obviously the team would be a lot better. We would be in a much better position right now if he was playing and hopefully he will play again. We don't know right now, but hopefully he will play again." Alexander was asked when he heard the news on Yao how did it hit him ."In the stomach because you've gotten this news so many times before and you're always hoping for the best and when it doesn't happen it's really sad," Alexander said. Alexander continues to have great admiration for his star center. "Yao is one of the finest players we've ever had in terms of dedication and wanting to win and you really feel bad for a guy who can't get out on the floor. You feel bad for him. You feel bad for his family, his teammates and obviously for the fans of Houston." http://www.myfoxhouston.com/dpp/sports/nba/101216-yao-ming-ankle-injury
htown11
^ Ya 610 had a Doctor breaking down what may have happened. http://kilt.cbslocal.com/2010/12/16/dr-kenneth-r-first-3/ It's frustrating because you are working on this one particular injury and then the next one creeps up during rehabilitation. The Dr. was saying it's something that goes unnoticed until Yao got back on the court and was complaining about pain in a location where no one was ever worried about. Then he gets the MRI and it shows this.... can't catch a break.

AboveLegit
Houston may have gotten a few more good years out of him had the Chinese National Team been a little more conservative with Yao. I remember during the Olympics he said he could barely lift his legs and was still forced to carry the team. And he's easily a hall of famer. Yao is the first successful Chinese player in the NBA and the first Chinese all-star. He not only broke down major borders, but he did it with class. He was part of many humanitarian efforts both in the US and in China. Also, in the Chinese league he was a dominant player, and that counts as well.
Multi-Billionaire
Yao is just very heavy... I think his bone content may not be designed to support his body weight. My feeling is the nutrition from Asia (Asian food)... such as rice may not provide what a big athlete as he requires. There are some types of bones that are more fragile than other types of bones. They have to strengthen their bones via their daily calcium intakes and supplements. Don't know if Yao gives attention to his nutrition.
