Would you take a prime Kobe or a prime Shaq for rebuilding team?

Lets say you were rebuilding the lakers team ground up, none of the current players/coach will be on the team. That said, if you could have one of either player, play at the high intensity of their season best, for each season for the next 15 years, who would you pick and why? Would it be the Shaq Attack, or The Black Mamba?

Kobes best season stats was his 05-06

2005–06 L.A. Lakers 80 80 41.0mpg .450fg% .347 3p% .850ft% 5.3rbg 4.5apg 1.8spg .4bpg 35.4ppg

Shaqs Best season stats was his 99-00 season

1999–00 L.A. Lakers 79 79 40.0 mpg .574 fg% .0003p% .524ft% 13.6 rbg 3.8asg .5spg 3.0bpg 29.7ppg

Kobe. Prime Kobe imo is the best player to play the game (not saying Kobe is the GOAT, but in their prime no one was better). I dont think people really understand what he did that season (actually for 2-3 years). He was facing double triple teams that entire season, managed to get 35 a night on 45 % efficiency. His starting lineups consisted of Smush Parker, Kwame Brown, Luke Walton, Lamar Odom, and Chris Mihm, and the bench was just as awful. As someone who watched just about every game that season and was present at Staples the night he scored 62, I dont think a basketball player can be anymore dominant then he was in his prime. No matter how many defenders were threw at him he would sink fadeaways over them, or manage to get to the rim and at the time he had great athleticism.

62, 81, the 40 ppg in Januar speak for themselves. Also at one point he made like 60 something straight free throws if I remember correctly. Prime Shaq was dominant too but if you give Kobe ANY sort of help in his prime then he probably makes the finals easily (took the 2nd seed to 7 games with Smush and Kwame).

Jordan in his prime was better then Kobe...sorry Kingfish ^

And see, the problem is, in today's NBA I think I'd take Kobe, but in the NBA 10 years ago, I'd have taken Shaq in his prime. The game is just a faster paced, more up and down tempo that's suited better for a top guard then it is a top huge center. back in the games that were 83-79 finals i would've taken shaq, but now in the games that are settled in the 100's i'd rather have kobe.

Well a prime Kobe can be found in the NBA today. Guys have the same talents as him, just couldn't put the championships together to top it off. Shaq however, is one of a kind. A prime Shaq can dominate all centers in the NBA today, where a prime Kobe today would be in the "who is the best player" topic mixed in with Lebron, Durant, Wade, and all those guys.

I am going to get a bunch of stats thrown at me to show Kobe is the best of all time, and how guys in the NBA today blow compared to him in his prime, but thats just my opinion.

I feel like Shaq would give a lot of immediate success, but in 5-6 years his effect would be reduced greatly where he could no longer be the #1 option on a team. Kobe would have some trouble in the start, but has soon as he hit the top its probably going to be really hard to bring him down as seen by recent Nba seasons. If Kobe is just provided a solid big man he can reap the benefits with many, many championships.

But like ive said, since both players would be playing at their peak levels for 15 years straight, and would stay with the team.. I would pick Shaq, no contest. Cant really go wrong with either players, but even a prime kobe he would still be amidst in the talks of a prime lbj/wade/durant and any other upcoming stars. Its so hard to find a dominant big man in today's nba, where its a lot easier to find a serviceable shooting guard. Having a prime shaq play at prime levels for 15 years would just be insane. No one would be able to stop him.

That's unfair. Shaq would never be able to put up his prime numbers for 15 years. Very unrealistic.

If that was the case, anyone and everyone would choose him over every single player in the NBA since 1980.
