The Truth Posted December 25, 2010 Report Share Posted December 25, 2010 (edited) when Haslem gets back, the Heat roster will look something like this: Arroyo/Chalmers/HouseWade/JonesJames/MillerBosh/Haslem/HowardAnthony/Ilgauskas/Dampier/Magloire that's fourteen players. to my knowledge, only twelve are allowed on an active NBA roster. none of them will be satisfied with being on the inactive roster, so who gets the ax? I added him to the poll and edited the roster. so that means we'll have to cut two players. that's gonna be a tough one. should we just cut two of these guys or try doing a three for one trade? Anthony is a midget who can't rebound or defend big post players, and Ilgauskas has virtually no defensive range. Dampier can rebound, defend big post players, and he has more speed than Z does to make proper help rotations. Howard and Magloire should get the axe. Pittman is already on the inactive roster, so I guess that would be fine. we need to find a way to get House on there. rather than keeping Howard, I think we should cut him and let Anthony be a hybrid; he could play either the four or the five off the bench. by cutting Howard off the active roster you posted, we could add House and still have enough big men on the team. we're either gonna have Pittman, Magloire, and Howard all in suits, or we're gonna have to make a deal. And for a serious answer to the topic, typically Pittman, Magloire, and Howard/House should be inactive, depending on matchups. Magloire and Howard are the ones who should go imo, but I don't like the idea of them wearing suits. their careers are coming to an end and they deserve a chance to play. besides, I doubt Arison wants to pay those guys just for them to wear suits. he'll probably cut them so another team picks up the salary and they still get a chance to play. that's really his only option besides making a three for one deal, but I doubt that happens. ultimately, I predict Magloire and Howard being cut from the roster and signing with other teams. that would make our roster look like this: Arroyo/ChalmersWade/JonesJames/MillerBosh/HaslemIlgauskas/Dampier House (plays the one and two)Anthony (plays the four and five) ^ that should be the complete active roster. like I said earlier, we either cut Magloire and Howard or ship them off in a three for one deal. As Arroyo and Z age, hopefully the Heat will find quality replacements through free agency.the problem, though, is the salaries of the big three increase on a yearly basis. so even with six or seven guys coming off the books this summer, our team payroll will still be about the same then as it is now. I don't know if we'll be able to sign anyone with much talent. I'm guessing the salary cap will be even lower next year, so that's probably a negative. I still think we need to make a decision on Chalmers. it's going to suck if we lose him over money. he'll probably end up getting seven or eight million a year from another team. call me crazy, but I'd probably rather trade him now and get a young point guard who's locked up for a few years. I saw this happen last year when I followed the Warriors. I said all season long that they should trade Watson and Morrow and get something while they still had the chance; both players ended up leaving. the difference is that the Warriors had enough cap to replace them with guys like Dorell Wright. we won't have that luxury. I think the Lakers used it to get Ron Artest, then Steve Blake the next year. Micky Arison is willing to spend that extra money to get the players the Heat need. So as long as the rumored lockout doesn't change any of that, the Heat should be fine in regards to having some flexibility to upgrade their weakest positions each offseason.
