AboveLegit
After years of patience and a willingness to wait out injury upon injury with their franchise star, the Houston Rockets are engaged in trade discussions about center Yao Ming(notes) with several teams, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. The lure of acquiring Yao for potential suitors is the $8 million in savings that insurance will provide for his $17.7 million expiring contract this season. Some teams are considering re-signing Yao on a short-term deal with hopes of restoring him to playing health, while others see his contract as a cost-saving measure. The Rockets are dangling Yao to acquire a good young player with an upside, if not an established talent. Despite offering Yao in trades, the Rockets haven’t ruled out the possibility of re-signing him to a short-term contract extension.http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-yaorockets122710
YugoRocketsFan
Seems like pure BS, no way could we get rid of him for any quality players.
Dash
As much as I want Yao to retire a Rocket, its for the best. Seems like pure BS, no way could we get rid of him for any quality players. His contract is whats so valuable. Look at what we got for Tracy McGrady's $23 million expiring contract, now think of the possibilities for Houston when a new CBA is on the horizon. Big expiring contracts and trade exceptions are going to be high in demand at the trade deadline.
htown11
WojYahooNBA: Rockets want combo of prospect, picks and expiring $ for Yao. Teams can get $8M in savings via insurance/chance to re-sign him at cut rate. WojYahooNBA: If you're Houston, you have to test market and determine Yao's value -- if any. Despite injuries, his talent still demands consideration.
