This team have lost to the likes of the Clippers and Sixers this week but it isn't just a cold spell they will be able to shake off, the Suns have been playing poorly and inconsistently all season. I love Warrick, I think he is a good fit to the system, but he isn't spectacular. Same for Gortat and Lopez. These two issues combined drag the Suns out of playoff contention. The Suns are one of the best offensive teams in the league. Getting another top 5 PF like Amar'e would only make their offense SO good, that it would make up for being possibly the worst defensive team in the league. What's more valuable to them is getting more defensive minded players, particularly at the wing positions. So in other words... their defense sucks. That's why they are mediocre. They had the poor defense problem for ages and they were still able to get into the WCF last year. Now, without him, they aren't going to even make the playoffs. They were fine before the trade and now they just need a week or so to get used to playing with Carter. They've won in LA, OKC, Houston, and Utah this year, so they obviously can still compete with playoff teams. I have no doubt they'll find a way somehow to make a run into the playoffs. The Suns might not be the best offensive team in the league anymore, but they are still damn good at third place. However, their biggest issues are going from 20th to last in rebounding, and going from 23rd to last in defense. So bottom line, after now knowing the facts, are you still trying to tell me that the best way for the Suns to become good again is to increase their "interior scoring" thus most likely becoming the best offensive team in the league, rather than not being the worst defensive team??? Again, the solution is to not be last in defense and rebounding. That's why they got Gortat and Pietrus. They may still need more defenders if they wish to make the playoffs.
