The Truth
Phil Jackson says this is his "last stand" with the Lakers after coaching the team for 11 seasons. Jackson was asked again if he could see himself taking some time off and coming back to coach. "No," Jackson responded. "I think I've put in my service time," he said. "I think I've done my due diligence that I set out to do, especially with this organization." Jackson has won five of his NBA-record 11 championships with the Lakers. He said he has "coached about as long as I want to coach."http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/70885/20110101/jackson_again_says_this_is_his_final_season/#ixzz19pYbep8Y Edited January 3, 2011 by HOV
magicbalala245
I think Phil is telling the truth. There are rumors saying maybe he takes a year off then goes back to coach Miami but I don't believe it. What more does he have to prove? When it comes to critiquing coaching only thing are involved are wins and rings and Phil has proven he is the best coach ever with 11 rings hands down. Multi-Billionaire
Coaches becoming "free agents" next year will definitely have an eye on the Lakers then... one of them is George Karl. I think Karl, wanting extension from Nuggets, will not be as demanding of the extension anymore.

Guest STL10
Many people believe Lakers will hire Brian Shaw and just keep the triangle in place instead of hiring a new coach with a total new offense scheme. Lakers should just hire Kurt Rambis after he gets fired. magicbalala245
Lakers should just hire Kurt Rambis after he gets fired. Not sure if they wanna revisited that scenario again. Kurt Rambis did not do that well when he was coaching as head coach for the Lakers but then again he never had that much experience when he started out. JYD
Yeah I'd be surprised if he keeps going...honestly. I mean, he's been around for so long...and he's won so much. He doesn't really need to prove anything further...

YugoRocketsFan
Phil is obviously just saying that so he can get the players to play better so they can win a championship for him one last time, just my thought.

Owner Real Deal Posted January 2, 2011 Owner Report Share Posted January 2, 2011 I believe it, 100%. He was very close to not coming back for last season, and there was serious talk about him coaching just the home games, Rambis coaching away and doing all the traveling, because of his health (might have been in 2008-09, but possibly last season as well, can't remember). As for someone like Karl replacing him, it's not likely. Shaw is a leading candidate. Byron Scott would be if he was available. Derek Fisher is also a candidate once he retires. In regards to Phil coaching the Heat later in his career...I'd say not a chance. Most importantly, his relationship with Jeanie Buss will prevent that from happening, most likely never coaching another franchise against her daddy's Lakers. Newman
I would really want Phil to finish his coaching career with another championship and one that definitely establishes him as the greatest NBA coach of all time. I really do.
CaliCurbStomppa
I think he will retire because he been talking about retirement plan for a few years
Makaveli
If Phil goes after this season, i'm really really happy for him. The best basketball coach in the history of the game and a candidate for the best coach in all of sports history. Â I think Shaw will almost definitely be the next Lakers head coach. EastCoastNiner
He'll go and coach the Miami Heat, so he can piggy-back to get another ring.

I really do.screw that; he already has eleven rings lol. I want to see new teams coming into contention. it gets boring seeing the Lakers in the finals every year.
