What sport athletes 'own' your city?

Topic title says it all.

Houston, Texas

1. Hakeem Olajuwon - the greatest Houston athlete ever and he won the lone Houston championships (unless you count the AFL and MLS championship years) and is still to this day a big influence in the Houston community.

2. Andre Johnson - arguably the best player in his position, he's loved greatly among the community and very well respected despite the lack of playoff appearances.

3. Jeff Bagwell/Craig Baggio - you don't have to watch baseball to know either of these two if you're a Houstonian. Two of the best baseball players to play for the Astros and got them to their lone World Series appearance.

4. Earl Campbell - probably the greatest Houston Oiler ever. The team may have moved on but his legacy in Houston hasn't.

5. Matt Schaub - Houston is a football town and Schaub is arguably a top 10 quarterback, not much else to say.

Honorable mentions are Yao Ming and Brian Ching (2 MLS championships).

NJ/NY (current players):

Derek Jeter: He OWNS this area.

Amare Stoudemire: New guy on the block, but he's catching on real quick.

Eli Manning: Most beloved football player currently around.

Rex Ryan: The media's favorite person at the moment.

Miami- Dwyane Wade, not even close here at all even with LeBron here. There was a lot of LeBron hype early on but D-Wade most definitely still owns this city..who's the one still getting MVP chants at the line? D-Wade is. Its not even a question.

Miami - LeBron James

Obvious troll is obvious...

Cleveland

- Bernie Kosar - Football legend here, beloved by Browns fans

- Bob Feller - Greatest Indian of all time, a part of the organization his whole life

- Austin Carr - At least to me, first pick in franchise history, does commentary currently for Cavs, so loyal and the fans love him

- Omar Vizquel - People loved this guy when he was here and he gets a standing ovation whenever he returns

- You could also say Jim Brown but I'm not a fan of him

In the future....Peyton Hillis and Colt McCoy can own this city if they can get us to the playoffs.

Tough list to make..

1. John Riggins

2. Wes Unseld

3. Walter Johnson

4. Sammy Baugh

5. Elvin Hayes

But when it's all said and done, I think if Ovechkin, Wall, and Strasburg have the careers we're all expecting them to have, and they stay with us for the majority of their careers, they will crack the list.

As for the person who currently owns DC, I'd have to give it to the one and only, Ted Leonsis. :D

Obviously not...No one goes to the games.

They've sold out every game this season...they got the same kind of crowd the Lakers have where the guests with premium seats arrive in the 2nd quarter.

I think Tony Sparano, Chadd Henne, and Dan Uggla remain Miami's favorite athletes.

There's also that guy who wears #3 on the Heat who won a championship.

Gotcha. I hate internet sarcasm without smiles...gets confusing as [expletive].

Definitely joking around.

Although I hate getting off topic, but I thought the Heat had bad attendance? At least for having the big 3? I heard they average more people at road games then they do at home? Wade tweeted something to that sort the other day.

Admittedly, our first half attendance sucks, but after half time..it might be one of the best home courts in the NBA.

So Heat fans can't tell time?

As I said before, they are just like the LA crowd...they are rich and don't care. They get those seats because they can, not because they are diehard fans.

Same goes for the Yankees' seats between the bases, and the Jets and Giants PSL's. Only rich people can afford them, which is why they look empty during games, even though they are technically sold-out.

Its hard to defend Lakers fans, but at least they show up in the playoffs. Staples Center has definitely gotten worse over the years though.
