Owner Real Deal Posted January 18, 2011 Owner Report Share Posted January 18, 2011 Got this from RealGM... http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/playbyplay?gameId=310117002 Now, earlier in the season, I could've swore I've seen this twice before...but I didn't think it was significant enough to post. I just dismissed it as an error. Three times? I'm not sure it's a coincidence anymore.
deestillballin
Really, they did not count that as an assist as Ray Allen clearly touched the ball last.
Check my Stats
Rondo always pads his own assist numbers. I didn't know the scorekeepers were helping him too.
htown11
A fair game in Boston what??
kingfish
I think the New Orleans score keepers used to do the same for CP3, and probably still do.
Erick Blasco
There needs to be more than one to compensate for scorer's error, though I don't doubt his assists are padded. The Thunder breakdown I saw had Westbrook get comped for two assists he clearly didn't deserve though. I guess padding numbers are all the rage nowadays. Nitro
That's the problem with assists; of all the box score stats, it is the only one that has grey area. That Ray Allen pass that was counted as a Rondo assist was plain awful, but there are so many other instances where the assist could go either way. It's annoying but we have to live with it. Which is a problem with statistical analysis, even advanced statistical analysis. There's no guarantee (outside of points and shooting percentages anyway) that stats are recorded correctly. Yep, although I believe in the law of averages, meaning that over the course of an 82 game season or post-season, that the numbers won't be so off-track that you can't make a proper analysis. The biggest problem with stats in basketball are the fact that they don't account for different playing systems, styles of play, etc... I read the story of a guy who cooked the books so Nick Van Exel could get 22 assists in a game against the Grizzlies. Some places cook books so that their players would get beneficial statistical treatment on the road.

Some places cook books so that their players would get beneficial statistical treatment on the road.Ah, I forgot about that story. Rondo is still a tremendous player, no doubt about it, and I'm sure he'd still average around the same amount of assists per game...but it was just odd that this has happened three times that I can remember (at least, where I was suspicious). moeroadkill
iv seen it happen to westbrook a few times also, he would pass to krstic and he would then fake a few passes pump fake then shoot and he would still get an assist, i think it happens to every team, Klove, when played the thunder had around 20+ rebounds but a few of them were 'tips' and he was rewarded with the rebound

*Swish*
That was clearly Ray Allen's assist. Seriously, I think it's really bull[expletive].

fish7718
Meanwhile, Ray Allens lowest career assist avg since his rookie year was 3.5, in Boston he has averaged 2.9 assists, poor Ray Ray
Lkr
maybe the score keeper was under the impression he was watching a hockey game
