AboveLegit
Apparently NBA Execs think so...Anthony lacks most of the intangibles necessary to be a great player, they say. And this is why the Nets, or whoever gets him for the long-term and wants to win a championship, are advised to find another All-Star teammate for him, if they don't already have one. The scouts all agree Anthony just doesn't have "it" to be the focal point of a contender, to motivate teammates and to impact games other than scoring. One scout: "If he's your main guy, your team won't be lifting the trophy. He's Dominique Wilkins in that regard."http://www.nba.com/2011/news/features/shaun_powell/01/18/melo-franchise/index.html?ls=iref:nbahpt1
Check my Stats
He is a glorified Chris Bosh in terms of his impact. I have been saying this for years. This why I don't get why the Nets are in such a rush to sell their souls for him. Edited January 18, 2011 by Check my Stats
Nitro
Well, he's a very good rebounder for a SF as well, and in the clutch there are few better options to go to, but he's not elite in any other facet of the game besides scoring. The thing is he is a GREAT isolation scorer, and even though his TS% isn't that high, he makes a huge impact with that ability. I do agree he's not carrying a team to a championship without a legit superstar by his side and role players who do all of the little things, though. Owner Real Deal Posted January 18, 2011 Owner Report Share Posted January 18, 2011 I think Melo could be a better defensive player if he put more work into it. He's a big frame at the three, did show off a few defensive skills in the post here and there over the years, but I think he's too focused on his offensive game. I don't see him becoming a Pippen, though, if we're asking when he'll seek a Batman to win with. I can't vision Melo running an offense, and I don't see him taking a backseat to anyone, even in a situation like they have in Miami right now. Had he went there, instead of LeBron, I think Melo would expect Wade to defer and run the offense through him...and that conflict is the stuff that makes you ringless over the course of your career, unless you're Kobe and Shaq. Erick Blasco
Perhaps, but he has many dimensions to that one dimension.
Multi-Billionaire
He's been an improved rebounder this year, and he can really pass the ball, except he rarely runs a team like LeBron does. I believe in his defensive ability, and unfortunately, his laziness to go with it. Without a doubt, Melo's willingness to play D hinges on motivation. If he was on a championship contending team, where he believes his team really has a shot to win the whole thing, he would be motivated to be a lock down defender, e.g. in playoffs. Yes, I said "lock down", I believe he has the tools and ability to become an All NBA defensive team. He's strong, he's physical, he has quick feet to stay in front of his man, but all is missing is his willingness and motivation.
