The Nets just had it going tonight. The game was pretty even to start. The Cavs had a rough time getting the ball in the basket in the first quarter, but did much better on the offensive end as the game progressed. The closest part of the game was halfway through the second quarter, when the Cavs cut the lead to 33-30. The Nets then went on a huge run. Terrence Jones, in his NBA debut, put up 30 points. He shot the ball almost any time he had the slightest look, and it kept going down. Coming out of the half, the Cavs were determined to get back in the game. They made it a thirteen point game heading into the fourth, but the Nets went on an 8-2 run to start the fourth quarter, virtually killing any energy left in the Cavs systems. The Cavs kept the rookies in there though to get some experience. The whole fourth quarter, though, was just a dagger to the Cavs, who looked poised to make a comeback. Key stats in this game include field goal attempts. The Nets had 90, while the Cavs had 71. That mostly came from the Nets dominance in second chance attempts. They had 10 offensive rebounds to the Cavs 3. http://media.cleveland.com/startingblocks/photo/new-cavaliers-secondary-logojpg-3e1cc85a3e691cec_small.jpgCavaliers Extra Post-Game Comments Byron Scott: "I think we were prepared, we just didn't execute. We turned the ball over and lost the rebounding battle. Those things we can control. Also, we need to get to the line more." Sullinger: "I mean, it was awesome finally playing, but this isn't how I wanted our team to come out. We'll just have to be ready for Denver Saturday because I really don't want to lose like this again." http://community.2ksports.com/community/storage/media/v/l4/l3953/m3956243.jpgSullinger has a solid debut. He blocks one of Randolph's shots here. Game Notes - Irving had 9 assists, but also had 10 turnovers - Jamison only had 5 points, forcing Scott to limit him to only 14 minutes of play - Thaddeus Young had no mid-range game tonight, and the Cavs will need that - Boobie will be back in 8-10 weeks Game 2: Home Opener vs. Nuggets (10/29/11)----------I'm not the best 2k player, but don't expect this too often. It got quiet quick a few minutes into the 4th. http://www.thinkinguncommon.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/gatorade_thumb.jpg Gatorade "That's G" Game Recap After a tough loss to New Jersey, the Cavs came out much more aware. However, the Nuggets, one of the most potent offenses, would not stop nailing shots from around the perimeter. The Cavs found themselves scoring 15 points in the first quarter for the second straight game. However, the 2nd quarter was very promising. The Cavs came out rolling. They were running the Nuggets back and forth down the court, forcing quick shots and running plays on the offensive end with much efficiency. The Cavs eventually took their first lead since the opening minutes when Sonny Weems jammed a dunk to the roar of the crowd. The Nuggets, however, managed to score in the final seconds to go into the half with the lead. The 2nd half started fairly well for Cleveland. The Cavs were up 56-51. However, the Nuggets went on a 9-0 run to take a 65-56 lead. The Cavs responded with the same aggression from the 2nd quarter to tie it up at 67 after Jamison got a lay up for the and one. Eventually the 4th quarter rolled around, and the Cavs were down 79-76. It was about as brutal as it gets. The Cavs couldn't strike at all, and the Nuggets kept pounding away on the offensive end to extend the lead. The final score wasn't close to indicating type of game this was. http://media.cleveland.com/startingblocks/photo/new-cavaliers-secondary-logojpg-3e1cc85a3e691cec_small.jpgCavaliers Extra Post-Game Comments Byron Scott: "We scored 10 more points, but you have to be able to score more when you play these offensive oriented teams. And during practice tomorrow, I'll make sure we hamper down on defense. Right now, we're giving up 113 points a game, and that's unacceptable." http://community.2ksports.com/community/storage/media/v/l4/l3955/m3958601.jpgSonny Weems monster dunk gave the Cavs its first lead since the opening minutes. Game Notes - Jamison played more tonight, and put up 9 points - Joey Graham may have found himself out of the rotation, playing no minutes tonight - Sonny Weems is impressing Coach Scott -Irving and Sullinger are playing solid. They had a tough time handling their first close game of the season, but that will fade with time. Holding the Pacers to 20 points or less the first three quarters, they set the tone to the game and kept the crowd out of it. Danny Granger was the only Pacer who brought his game, putting up a season-high 46 points. The rest of the players on Indiana, especially the bench, posed little threat. The Pacers had only 10 bench points. The team as a whole went 3-14 from three. The Cavs defense was suffocating the Pacers offense. It had 9 blocks and 7 steals. The offense, meanwhile, shot efficiently, going 35-71 from the field. Cleveland also went 21-22 from the free throw line. The Cavs were up 15-20 points throughout the whole game until the fourth quarter. The Pacers left their starters in while the Cavs rested all their starters. The final score is really a poor indication of the game this was. http://media.cleveland.com/startingblocks/photo/new-cavaliers-secondary-logojpg-3e1cc85a3e691cec_small.jpgCavaliers Extra Post-Game Comments Byron Scott: "First of all, the defensive effort was superb tonight. Granger was hot, and got his points, but we made their offense one-dimensional and made adjustments throughout the game to keep it that way. Also, it's always helpful when you have these games because I can give our starters some extra rest. Now we have a couple of days to prepare for Boston." Irving: "It feels so good to have that first win. Our whole team put together a complete game and we didn't let our guard down. Coach Scott challenged us, and we responded." Game Notes - Samardo Samuels scored 9 points in the fourth quarter - Kyrie went from 10 to 7 to only 2 turnovers tonight in the first three games - The three free agents Pryzbilla, Young, and Weems have all payed dividends in the starting lineup.
