Is the future bright for Raps?

we have a lot of cap space. I know a lot of stars don't want to find their [expletive] in Toronto but I'd wish this could happen. I think we could still sign some key players during this off-season. Maybe role players that could score the basketball with ease. DeRozan in my opinion has the potential to become a star. Since Bosh left, he stepped up a lot and now he's pretty dangerous for the opponents. We have the youngest roster in the league and with Bosh's departure, these young players have the chance to develop faster. That's why I think we have a good future.

People don't see Toronto and think of winter and arctic cold (not all players at least). They think of Toronto and think of 16 years of existence and once in the 2nd round, and like 15 playoff wins all time (if that, I have no idea).

In terms of what we have now, Demar Derozan is the only player I see with any offensive upside to be a quality offensive player for us. He looks like he will be a surefire 20 point player, he needs to learn to do take care of the ball, defend and do the little things, but he is putting up 20 point games with ease right now without even having a jumper outside of the mid range, which is extremely encouraging.

Amir Johnson and Ed Davis are also both quality pieces, with Ed Davis being the brighter of the two. He looks like a really sweet defensive player and could be our best defensive player by the end of the year lol. He just really seems to get it. Amir is the perfect role playing big man when he isn't in foul trouble. Outside of those three we don't really have any young players worth noting unless you count Bargnani, which I certainly don't.

The players were currently have are pretty mediocre, but if we get some lotto luck the future certainly gets a lot brighter. Derozan, Davis and Irving/Perry/Terrence looks a lot better than what we have now. It's hard to really say how bright our future is when there is still so much uncertainty with our pick.

EDIT: Completely forgot about Bayless. A lot of people have given up on this kid but I definitely think he can help us out moving forward. I like his game, he needs minutes to develop. Games like the other night show that he has talent, he just needs to develop his point guard skills if he wants to be a starter in this league.

So basically, our future is Demar, Davis, Bayless, Amir and our top pick. Bargs is whatever, I want him gone.

toronto could do without collangelo first of all imo, whether he is good or bad, i think raps could use a change with that...although i do give him props for some of the moves as of late

the coach isn't that bad for the group of guys raps have, but if you wanna attract players you would probably need someone better

secondly, somebody gotta send out some damn scouts goin around..im pretty sure this city has a lot of undiscovered talent (much better than magloire who has been an all-star)...if stars dont wanna come, you find homegrown stars who are willing to represent their city...american's really don't care much about reppin toronto..bosh always gave hints about not being on tv, alozno didn't even play a game, vince and t-mac after enjoying some stardom immediately set their eyes back south (of course the horrible management played a role as well) but i really think some homegrown stars could really turn this franchise around

This isn't soccer though. If there are talented guys in Toronto, they would have been invited to universities with a strong basketball program which would more than likely in the US. They would then go into the draft and the Raptors would have a 1/30 chance of getting him.

Not really. It isn't terrible like it could've been if Colangelo wasn't able to move Turkoglu and create financial flexibility, but I definitely wouldn't call it bright.

Best case scenario they have an average 2nd option, good 3rd option shooting guard in DeRozan and a good defensive power forward to look forward to. I like DeRozan and Davis, but I don't see either one of them ever becoming stars or more than good role players. I hope I am wrong, though.

What else do the Raptors have to look forward to? Bargnani is what he is at this point, and that is an offensive specialist 6th man. Bayless is going to be a Jason Terry type player unless he develops point guard skills, which is anything but a sure thing. They have cap space this summer, and there are some nice free agents at the Raptors two weakest spots (center and small forward), but it is anything but a sure thing that they will land a difference making free agent. Colangelo has done a nice job so far in creating space and buying low on decent prospects, but basically every move he has made in the free agent market has been less than impressive.

Best case scenario for the Raptors is that they are in the playoffs in 3 years, but unless they get really lucky in the draft and land a generational talent like LeBron James, it is looking more like 5 years before the Raptors are talking about playoffs again.
