What a shot by Derrick to end the half. Kid is flat out amazing. 8-11 (5-6 from three) for 25 points. His game reminds me of Danny Granger, he's got the upper body strength and athleticism to make the transition to the NBA easy for him. And he has a sweet stroke on his jumper.

He reminds me how Melo was in college for Cuse.

College Stats Per 35 Minutes

Carmelo Anthony

22.2 PPG, 10 RPG, 2.2 APG, FT% 70.6, 3FG% 33.7

Derrick Williams

22.8 PPG, 9.5 RPG, 1.3 APG, FT% 74.4, 3FG% 60.3

Very similar stats in college and if you remember Carmelo Anthony was used as a power forward in college for Syracuse not a small forward. Kind of like what Arizona is using Derrick Williams for. I watched some college tape on Carmelo Anthony when he played for Syracuse and what I watched him do is exactly what Derrick Williams does now. Play in the low post both of them have very nice low post moves and both can extend it out to the 3-point line. Anthony is not known for his three point shooting, but he can hit them. He is known for scoring around the hoop, dunks and lay-ups, jumpshots, and getting to the free throw line. Exactly what Williams is known for. Not to mention they are also the same height and similar in size:

Carmelo Anthony

Height: 6-8

Weight: 230 lbs

Derrick Williams

Height: 6-8

Weight: 235 lbs

When Carmelo was in college he was known and the most prolific scorer in the game at the time and Williams is know as the most prolific scorer in the game right now. Anthony went #3 in the 2003 NBA Draft and Williams is projected to go anywhere from 1-6 in the draft this year. Williams could solidfy himself as a top three pick if he has a nice tournament run like Anthony, but it is that is doubtful that Arizona gets to the Final Four though it is possible. He will most likely go in the top five this year regardless of what happens.

Yeah I like that comparison, but Melo was a better closer and just an overall better leader. You hardly ever saw Melo differ to teammates like Williams sometimes does now, or even Durant did back in Texas with Augustine.
