Built Ford Tough
I was just wondering if it was me or if other Raptor fans feel the same way, but I honestly can't even bring myself to watch a full game anymore. Tonight's game against the Wolves was the first time that I wasn't at work or class during a Raptor game for about a month and yet I watched the first half of the game and completely lost interest after that (didn't watch the 4th until the last few minutes). I watched the Hawks/Mavs game instead. I don't know what it is because I can handle being a fan of a crappy team (as evident from my 10+ years as a Raptor fan), but there is something about this team that makes me not care at all. I could probably go the rest of the season without watching a Raptor game and I wouldn't even care. Anybody elsee feel like this or is it just me? Owner Real Deal Posted January 30, 2011 Owner Report Share Posted January 30, 2011 Welllllll...you were in support of their tank mode, and even though I don't think a lot of their games have been winnable, it does seem like they don't care. It's hard for me to ever support a team's tanking. Even with the Raiders, I hate when they lose.
Nitro
I don't blame you. When the Nets were really awful, including last season and this season to a degree, I couldn't watch full games. When you have young players with superstar potential, then it becomes easier to watch the games as you are watching exciting, young talent develop into something great. But, in the situation you guys are in, where Demar is probably your best prospect, then it's really unbearable to watch.

I'm 100% convinced the Nets were tanking last season. I don't see how that team could've nearly challenged that Sixer record (for losses in a season). When you're dead set on your team losing the game, it's really not fun to watch. It's just disappointing.
*Swish*
Same for me. I used to watch EVERY SINGLE games of them in the beginning of the season and they were actually so exciting to watch with Bargnani having great performances, every pumped up and DeRozan developing fast enough to become our 2nd go to guy. But right now, they suck. They're boring to watch and it got so boring tonight that I gave up on it and started watching the Hawks getting beaten by Mavs. Lame [expletive] right there. It's hard for me to ever support a team's tanking. Even with the Raiders, I hate when they lose. It isn't the fact that they are losing that bothers me, I just seem to have no interest in the team right now. Like I said, I watched every single game (might've missed a couple, but you get the point) in 02/03 when the Raptors won 24 games and that team was arguably worse than this current roster. Carter was hurt and played half the season only and you had guys like Jelani McCoy playing 20 minutes. The team sucked, the future looked incredibly bleak (and I didn't even know at the time that the 03 draft was supposed to be that good, so I didn't look forward to that either) and yet I was still excited to watch every game. Also, I don't think that the Raptors are tanking. They genuinely suck. I think you can legitimately say that the Raptors have the worst team in the NBA and these losses are, for the most part, legitimate. I agree with your point about the Nets last season as well. They were clearly tanking if you ask me.
Check my Stats
Well this is really the first time since I've been a die-hard fan that we haven't had that one thing to cling to, that one player we can look at and say 'at least we have him'. Right now the closest thing we have to that is Demar, but we need to remain realistic about his upside, I love Demar and hype him up all the time but he still has a lot of obvious limitations, though his strings of 20 point games with his limited offensive arsenal is very encouraging. He could definitely be a legitimate offensive option and a good player for us moving forward, but he can't be our best offensive player. Bargnani is one of the main reasons I almost hate this team because he basically encompasses what is wrong with it, he is so one dimensional and while he is really solid at what he is good at, scoring, he is also terrible at what he is bad at, the defensive side of the ball. I can't explain how happy I'd be if he was gone, even if we just waived him. He is like the 1 remaining piece from the failed half-decade with Bosh. But honestly, while I am in a similar boat to you in missing a lot of games (though a lot of this has to do with school and the amount of games on TSN2 SN1) this is the most excited I've been about the team in a while. Even though we are trash, it just feels like a fresh start. For once we aren't making lateral band-aid fix moves to appease Chris Bosh, we are building long term. It does sucks that this draft is pretty weak, but drafting in the top 5 it looks like we could still nab someone really good. Like I said before, I'd sell my soul for real if we could get first pick and get Irving. If we can draft a franchise player, or close to it, (I have no idea if there is one in this draft) we have a better supporting cast in place for that player than I think Bosh ever had, and probably VC too. It just feels like to me we have a lot of the supporting pieces in place like secondary offensive options in Bargs and Demar, a player who looks like he can be a defensive anchor (by Raptor team standards at least) for us in Davis, and a couple solid pieces in Bayless and Amir. We aren't the Thunder in terms of our position, or even the Kings, but we also aren't the Pistons. The future of this franchise really feels like it is hanging on this draft. The draft lotto will be the most nervous I have been in regards to the Raptors in a very long time, probably since the Nets playoff series. While I try and remain realistic about our team moving forward, I still reserve some optimism. I like what we have in Demar, Davis, Amir and Bayless, but we definitely need something good out of this draft. A couple ping pong balls bouncing our way gives us one of the nicer futures in the league, but if we wind up picking in the mid-lotto, things will remain relatively bleak. EDIT: I also definitely think we are tanking right now. We are giving run to some of the [expletive]tiest players I've seen since Solomon and Ukic.
