LeBron James For MVP?

I know he probably won't win it this season, but I think he has as strong of a case as any player in the NBA, if not stronger. I know every person has a different view on how they will vote for the award, but if you're going to vote based on the most "valuable" player, how can LeBron not win it?

The Cavaliers went 61-21 last season, and now that he's gone they are a dismal 8-38! No player in the league had as much value to his team as LeBron had to Cleveland. I really think when voting this should be taken into consideration. The effect that he had on not just the Heat this season, but the Cavaliers as well, should show he is clearly the most valuable player.

To a lesser extent, it's somewhat like Tom Brady showing his true value in 2008-2009, when he wasn't even playing, and the Patriots didn't even make the playoffs.

I think he deserves it. Generally speaking it goes to the best player on one of the 2-3 best teams in the NBA, and LeBron fits that description. He is easily the best player in the NBA, once again putting up crazy stats (26/7/7 on strong efficiency), is one of the 2-3 best perimeter defenders in the league (could make a case for him being the best), and the Heat are going to end up with a 1/2 seed assuming none of the Big 3 goes down for an extended period of time. In a year or two, when they get more role playing talent, I will buy that he isn't comparably valuable as other candidates are to their teams, but this year they have surrounded the Big 3 with veteran minimum contracts and 2nd rounders. Now that Miller is healthy that has gotten better, but for the first half of the season I think without James they would have struggled mightily. Maybe not quite as much as the Bulls would without Rose, but I think the huge gap between LeBron and Rose's abilities, as well as LeBron's advantages in the stats department, make up for the difference in value to their respective teams (which is something that's a lot harder to measure and is based off assumptions).

He's putting up the best stats on one of the best teams in the league right now. Unless the Bulls finish ahead of us, why not give it to him?

Sure why not. Cant make it any more of a joke award.

Why is it a joke? Because your dream boyfriend isn't a top candidate for it this year?

I'm saying why shouldn't LeBron's impact of the Cavaliers be taken into consideration as well. I think that should be strongly considered as well.

He's averaging almost the same exact numbers....1 less assist, around 3 less points. Is he doing that much less work?

This isn't the same Cavs team....LeBron didn't play with Alonzo Gee, Ryan Hollins, Ramon Sessions, Christian Eyenga, Manny Harris, etc...and Mo, Boobie, and Verajao have missed at least 30-40 games combined so far.....and also, Delonte, Z, and Shaq aren't on this team. Fact is, this is a totally different team.

Don't be upset! Your dream boyfriend is!

Wait, what? You came into a thread and added nothing to the actual debate but just came after my post and said something stupid? I'm completely shocked.

Came after your post? You're the only one who attacked someone in this thread; yes, that draws attention to your post.

If you consider it stupid, cool. Your comment was also stupid, then. You call out kingfish for having a "dream boyfriend", while you wake up in the morning with sticky shorts after an LBJ dream? It's laughable. Completely hypocritical.

I'm completely shocked that in your opinion, what you did was cool, but you want to call me out for flipping the script. ^_^

And you continue to prove my point for me. Thank you for continuously acting like a little child on here.

The only reason I called out Kingfish is because its obvious he made that comment because Kobe isn't really being considered for the MVP award right now.

I'm not surprised that you turned this thread into this though. Good job!

I'd so no. He's having a good season for sure, on a good team obviously, but when you're playing with two other all-stars, you're not the most valuable player in the league. When he was on the Cavs it was no question they'd collapse without him. With Miami, if he went out for a few games, they'd probably be fine as long as Wade and Bosh were healthy.

Amar'e, Rose, Nowitzki all need serious consideration as well. If you took those three of their teams, they'd basically collapse...That's what contributes to a true MVP IMO. How much do you mean to your team? Those guys are more valuable to their team than LeBron is to the Heat because they still have plenty of firepower with Wade and Bosh.

Amare won't win it because the Knicks won't have a good enough record. Nowitzki has already missed quite a few games, and without Butler they've dropped in the standings and probably won't finish with a top 5 record. Rose you could make a case for, although with LeBron producing more and being the far better defender, the idea that he is so much more valuable than LeBron is kind of off-base IMO. Also, with how Wade struggled so much the first 20 or so games, with how Bosh struggled to fit into the team the first 10 games or so, with Miller and Haslem (their 4th and 5th best players) being injured, with their gaping holes at important positions, and with the fact that they put veteran minimum guys and 2nd rounders around the Big 3, I really do think James has comparable value to his team as Rose does to the Bulls. Maybe not quite as much, but certainly comparable. Couple that with the fact that LeBron is the much better player and is producing more, and I have a hard time giving the MVP to Rose over LeBron.

Wade is averaging nearly 27PPG the last two months, and the Heat and Bulls are both tied in the conference. Noah and Boozer have missed 20 or so games already this season, yet Rose has lead them to a top 3 record in the East. I think that's more than enough to get him past LeBron in the MVP race.

LeBron doesn't get it because Kobe and Shaq were splitting votes during the dynasty, and that's how life is. Wade is just as valuable as James, so they should be splitting votes as well. It's why Kevin Garnett, the defensive anchor of the 2008 Boston Celtics (and one of the best defensive teams in the history of the game), didn't get an MVP award that season. Mention Garnett's stats? Tell me about Steve Nash's stats. Mention Nash didn't have a lot of support? We're back to my point.

Lol......... No. Actually, Kobe is a top candidate for it this year, no reason why he wouldnt be.

The reason its a joke award is because they gave it to Steve Nash twice in a row, when he didnt deserve either. Then they gave it to Dirk only to watch him choke in the first round and accept his award at a press conference, then they gave it to Lebron twice in a row. Just ask yourself how many times in the last, ten years or so, the MVP went on to win the championship (or at least make the Finals), then youll see why its a joke award. Even when they gave it to Kobe it wasnt even close to his best season or most deserving season.

p.s. , you're boyfriend is Lebron James.

I disagree. Yes, the Bulls have had injuries, but when Noah was playing he was playing better than Bosh, and when Boozer has played he has been better than Bosh. Deng has played very well this season, and their role players (Brewer, Korver, Thomas, Gibson) have been better than the Heat's role players. And take it for what it's worth, but when LeBron is on/off the court, there is nearly a 10pt difference, while with Rose there is only a 4pt difference.

As I said before, Rose is probably more valuable than LeBron is, at least offensively, but I don't think the difference is as big as people think it is. If the Bulls finish with a better record, then Rose will have a much better case, but I doubt they will finish higher than Miami. Mixed those factors in with the fact that LeBron is the much better player who is producing more, and I just don't think Rose should win the MVP over LeBron.

But the difference here is, no one on the Bulls is playing like Dwyane Wade, a top 3 player in this league right behind his teammate, LeBron. You're right, Noah and Boozer both have played better than Bosh, but Wade is the difference maker in this debate. You can't just single LeBron out and say he's more valuable to the team. Yeah he's been the most consistent player on the Heat this season, but the last two months Wade has been on fire.

The records won't matter as long as the Bulls are close to the Heat in the standings. You're putting too much emphasis on that and completely ignoring the fact that Rose has probably been the most consistent player in the league right now. He's missed one game this season and is the clear cut leader of that Chicago team. As good as the Heat have been this season, they're under .500 against teams with a losing record, and are 3-8 in games decided by 5 points or less.

In this day and age, a player playing with 2 other stars will not get the MVP award. RD said it best.

Shaq got screwed out of one award because of the AI season, and the next season 3 seasons he missed 15 games a piece. He was also playing in years where there were stronger candidates than the likes of Rose and Amare.

As for 2008, Kobe and Paul simply deserved it over KG. Not just based on value, but because they were the better players who produced more (KG's 19/9 or whatever he had in 2008 just doesn't cut it with voters). He also wasn't the team's closer. LeBron is still producing at a ridiculous rate, moreso than his peers, is the best defender on one of the 2-3 best defensive teams in the league, and he flat-out is the best player in the league. He also leads the Heat in clutch points, clutch assists and shoot 90% from the FT line in those situations. He has a far stronger case than Shaq did before 99 and after 01, and same with KG in 08.
