According to one of his teammates, Kobe Bryant recently threatened, "I'll play in Europe" when they were discussing the potential of an NBA lockout this summer and the ramifications of a new collective bargaining agreement.

"Kobe understands what the players before him did and he feels a responsibility to do the same to the younger guys," said the teammate, who did not want to be identified.

The idea of Kobe finishing his career overseas has some players intrigued.

"If he goes to play in Italy I will go with him," joked Danilo Gallinari, New York's Italian-born forward.

Bryant spent part of his childhood in Italy, where his father, Joe Bryant, played professional basketball.

I am sure this is the case with a lot of players, Europe is just about the only leverage they have. Europe allows them to still collect a paycheck should the owners be foolish enough to lockout, thankfullyI don't think it will get to that point.

I don't think Kobe will retire from the NBA until he has 7 rings, even if it means he plays until he is 50.

Actually, didn't Iverson need a letter of clearance from FIBA? I don't think Kobe could get that if he's still under contract. It's a binding agreement. Same with Rubio, I believe, in regards to being binded by a contract.

Interesting read on these NBA players going to Europe

http://blog.shamsports.com/2011/02/mike-hall-wants-you-to-know-that-things.html

I'm kinda offended at all these NBA dudes thinking they will just pop up and ball out in Europe!

Overseas dudes are built diff...2-a-days midseason, 5-8 hour bus rides, roommates on the road, mandatory team meals

A 1 hour practice mid-season is considered a "day off" in Europe..NBA dudes would go on strike!

And what these NBA dudes gonna do when those first 2 checks are a FEW months late?????

What these NBA dudes gonna do when a fan hits em in the head w a damn battery or spits on em????

When the last time a NBA dude washed his own practice gear? Between yo moms, managers, and groupies I'd guess NEVER

You know how hard it is to shoot a jumpshot with BOMBS and fires burning in the stands???

You think youre gonna iso on the wing in Greece?!? Man those big a** Greek dudes will bodyslam your a**...google greek baby shaq

Oh yea and I played on one of the best teams in Europe..owned by Giorgio Armani..imagine life on one of the other 50-100 teams!!!!

So you mean to tell me I gotta practice 2 hours and you havent paid me in 2 months..and when I complain youre gonna fine me & YOU OWE ME $??

For those of you just tuning in..Im not overseas rt now...Im just mad @ these NBA guys thinking European bball is some easy cake-walk

I dont think the word "Iso" or the words "1-on-1" exist in Italian, Spanish, Greek, or Russian...you better pass that and go set a screen!!

Im done but please believe theres going to be a whole lotta unnecessary flagrant fouls this summer if you think ur taking our jobs in Europe
