"We are looking forward to it," Kobe Bryant said. "We are up for the challenge. Pau [Gasol] and I have been talking the whole time about looking forward to it and getting back at it. We have been in communication with the rest of the fellas, and we all can't wait to get started." At 38-19, the Lakers have the third-best mark in the Western Conference, just 1.5 games ahead of the Thunder. In each of the last two seasons, when they won the NBA title, they finished the regular season with the best record in the Western Conference.
