Did the Knicks trade for the right guy?

Now I know the Melo/NY lovefest is in full force right now and I definitely understand that. However, don't you think they would've been better off going after one of CP3 or D-Will? CP3 was involved in some trade discussions earlier in the year with Orlando IIRC. Pairing a superstar PG with Amare in D'Antoni's system has proven results with the success they had in Phoenix. I know Melo is a NY guy and probably a bigger name than Paul or D-Will, but I think they should've gone harder at one of those guys.

Do you guys think they went after the right player?

Yeah, but the Hornets wouldn't trade him...?

Because Orlando wasn't offering anything decent. The Knicks had a nice package of young role players to offer. I think they definitely should've made a harder effort to go after CP3.

Nice package of role players for an elite PG?

LOL, ok...

It was good enough to get an elite SF. Its not always about talent in return either, but just getting the best thing you can in return. Unless LA offers up Bynum in the future I doubt NO would've gotten anything better than what NY just gave Denver.

I just think CP3 would've been a better fit in NY.

Flash I think you make a good point in the sense that CP3 or Dwill would fit in better but you have to realize the jazz or hornets don't want to give up on cp3 or dwill yet.....they think they can re-sign them im sure

why trade for him when we can sign him next summer?

the reason we got Melo now was because we didn't know if he'd sign an extension with Denver or New Jersey. if we didn't trade for him, we'd risk losing him to his current team or to our divisional rival.

with Paul, it's a much safer bet he's going to become an unrestricted free agent. we might even be able to choose between him and D-Will. getting Melo was definitely the right move for this year.

You act as if its a guarantee that he's going to be a Knick lol. We don't know what the new CBA will look like and we don't know if New Orleans is going to trade him or not. I think you'll see the Nets make a real push along with some other teams you don't expect as of now. Not to mention the Lakers will always be involved.
