Toronto Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan vows he's finished competing in the NBA's slam dunk contest unless the myriad of props that dominated Saturday's event are eliminated. Asked Tuesday if he thinks he was robbed when he didn't reach the final of the competition, DeRozan replied, "I think so." Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers won by leaping over a car to edge Washington's JaVale McGee in the last round. "I'm a dunker. Dunk contests, you go out there and dunk. I'm not into all the props and everything," DeRozan said at shootaround before Tuesday's game against Charlotte. "I try to come out with a creative dunk and do it and go from there. My fans liked it and you can see the reaction from a lot of people afterward. "If there's a dunk contest next year I'll do it. But not no prop dunk contest." ESPN.com

Most of the decent possible have already been done in past contests. Ibaka had an incredible free throw line dunk but he got less points for it because its been done several times before. Props are now becoming a necessity now. DeRozan had some great dunks but he also entertained the crowd the least, which has cost him these past two years.

He makes a fair point but in this day and age props give life to a contest that desperately needs it. The dunk should be the most important thing but clearly the creativity and preparations play a big role with the crowd and judges.

Plus every year it seems like TNT runs an hour long homage to past dunks and honestly after watching that it reminds you of some great dunks.

That is pretty much my view on things. I don't mind if you want to use a basic prop like what Ibaka did or Gerald Green when he did that windmill over the table or whatever it was, but bringing out a 2nd hoop or a [expletive]ing car is just stupid.

The dunk contest is no about who uses the best props and has very little to do with the actual dunks. I know that most things have already been done and all that, but I really enjoyed this dunk contest and the dunks I enjoyed the most were the ones that didn't feature stupid props. This contest would've been great even if we didn't have 2 hoops or a car.

Props didn't ruin the contest IMO, it's the stupid fan voting.

Slam Dunk contests were better back when REAL dunkers and basketball fans judged the Finals...

Now the Finals has just turned into a popularity contest much like the All-Star voting. (Looks at Yao Ming and Allen Iverson)
