The Truth
I understand that concept, but who are the Nets going to acquire in the next few years to put them over the top? it's not like every summer is 2010. even with Williams and Lopez, the Nets still need another star or two to be a title contender. they won't sign Dwight because they have Lopez and they won't sign Paul because they have Williams. so, I just don't see how this team would become a serious contender in the next few years even with D-Will on the roster. there's three ways of improving a team - trades, drafts, and free agency. like I said, there's not much available to them in the way of free agency the next couple years. they don't have great trade assets anymore since trading Favors and Harris, and it's not like they'll be getting a top five pick this year or next. so yeah, maybe they go out and sign AK47 and a couple more good role players. that's still not a championship team by any means. D-Will would be much better off going to the Knicks or the Clippers in that case. Edited February 25, 2011 by HOV
AboveLegit
What makes you think the Nets can't land Dwight next season? Given the current age of superstars wanting out, GM's are constantly looking to put their team in the best position moving forward, so I'm sure they will at least field some offers for Dwight this time next year, ESPECIALLY if they don't win a ring this year. Brook Lopez and a few pieces here and there should do the trick because really, what better options are out there for Orlando? In 2006, the Celtics were in a similar situation, and I'm sure you were doubting their ability to build a true contender for years to come given that roster, right? So much can happen in this league in such a short period of time, I'm sorry but you're not using your head right now.

I'm gonna stop debating this now though because no one's gonna change anyone's mind. if y'all think the Nets are gonna keep D-Will and become a serious title contender in the next few years, go ahead lol. I don't understand how it is unlikely at all.

The Truth
I just stated why I thought it was unlikely, using bullet points lol. the chances of him wanting to play there more than anywhere else, and him and Williams both signing long-term deals is unlikely imo. The Truth
I don't - it's my opinion. my stance on this deal all along has been this - if D-Will signs an extension, it's a great deal for Jersey. if he leaves, they made an absolutely horrible deal. AboveLegit
[*]Dwight decides he wants out of OrlandoHe's already said it's winning this year or he's leaving. Now it's not a guarantee that he does, but after seeing multiple superstars leave for larger markets, I don't see why he wouldn't. [*]Dwight decides he wants to play in JerseyNot everyone is going to pull a Carmelo and publicly state that he wants to go to a specific team...[*]Jersey offers the best package for DwightThere's a strong possibility that they do. Brook Lopez is an enticing piece that's still on his rookie contract. [*]Dwight and Williams both agree to extensionsWilliams has stated that there's a strong possibility that he does sign, so if he does, it only makes the Nets a more attractive option for future FA's.
