The Goods
The New Orleans Hornets, after swapping Tyson Chandler for Emeka Okafor, are poised to add further to their frontcourt by signing free-agent forward Ike Diogu. NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com that the Hornets and Diogu are close to finalizing a deal, with a formal announcement expected later Wednesday or Thursday. Terms of the contract were not immediately available, but Diogu is regarded as a low-cost option who has yet to reach his full potential after playing sparingly in the past two seasons. Diogu, 25, appeared in only 29 games last season for the Portland Trail Blazers and Sacramento Kings but did enjoy a few productive spells with the Kings are arriving in February via trade, averaging 9.2 points and 3.9 rebounds in just 14.2 minutes in 10 games. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4363982 Edited July 29, 2009 by The Goods
Warren2ThaG
Underrated kinda like Powe. Puts up numbers when he plays, just never gets the consistent minutes.
The Great iBoldin
I've always found Diogu a little overrated, he doesn't do anything great, he's just.. average. But it provides depth for the Hornets especially with injury concerns to Peja and Mo-Pete if they get extended minutes.
Flight
I can see him being the 8th guy off the bench, and providing some depth. We have Hilton to backup Meka, Diogu can now back up West if we get him. Things are starting to look up.
BlueDevil
I like this signing. Diogu is a guy who can produce when givin the chance, and he will have a great pt guard to help him out
Flight
Check out the last two games of the year he played. Look at his stats, and look at what he went up against. Chris Anderson and Kenyon Martin in the first game, a defensive combo to say the least. He dropped 32 and 11 off the bench. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=290415016 Then this game, the coaches decided to start him. Lightning struck twice. He went up against numerous players, including Mark Madsen, Brian Cadinal, Kevin Ollie, Ryan Gomes, Craig Smith, and Shelden Williams, but mostly Kevin Love. None of them figured out how to stop him. 28 and 13. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=290415016 He averaged just over 4 points in 7 minutes a game. That means he's averaging 26.6 points per 48 minutes. Now, I know he'd never play more than probably 34 minutes a game at the peak of his career, but what I'm saying is that given the time he plays, he maximizes what he does. The last two games of the year were really the only ones he got to play much in, and he proved he could start. Behind Meka and West, he won't be starting but should be very solid.
