magicbalala245
The Spurs are the only team above the Mavericks in the Western Conference standings, but neither of those teams should be considered favorites to reach the NBA Finals. Not according to Dirk Nowitzki, who firmly believes that the road to a West title travels through Los Angeles. “The Lakers, to me, are still the heavy, heavy favorite in the West,” Nowitzki said after Thursday’s practice. “After that, there are a bunch of teams bundled up.” Nowitzki’s logic is simple. The Lakers, who are two games behind the Mavs and 7 ½ behind the Spurs, own the throne until somebody knocks them off of it. In his mind, a two-time defending champion has to be considered the favorite when it has its title-winning roster pretty much intact. “And they’ve got the best player in the world,” Dirk said, giving Kobe Bryant props. Jason Terry, the only other key member of the Mavericks’ 2006 Finals team still on the roster, agrees that the Lakers should be the popular pick to win the West. And he acknowledges that the Spurs are Option B. It’s fine with Terry if folks sleep on the Mavs, who have plenty of doubters after winning only one playoff series in the last four years. “The Lakers always [are favorites], because they’re the champs,” Terry said. “But what San Antonio has done this year has made them a favorite. We’re chasing all those guys. “We’re going to maintain and play out this underdog role, because people didn’t predict us to do much before the season and they’re not predicting us to do much now. We’ll continue to relish in that role and play with a swagger and a chip under our shoulder every night.” Dirk knows what's sup. And Terry is backpedaling like a muta[expletive]a.
