Dash
http://espn.go.com/nba/attendance Memphis is currently in the playoffs with a decent looking starting lineup and yet they sit at 26th in the NBA in attendance. Minnesota, one of the worst teams in the NBA, is currently above them in attendance. The Indiana Pacers, Atlanta Hawks, New Orleans Hornets are some other notable teams that are in the bottom 5-10 in attendance. What is up with that? The Truth
Memphis, New Orleans, and Atlanta are southern cities. football's the sport of choice in the south; I think baseball and NASCAR are even more popular down there for the most part. a franchise's success in terms of attendance doesn't depend solely on how good the team is that year. if the fans in the city prefer other sports, it's a lost cause. plus, in this economy, it's not surprising that a lot of clubs are struggling with ticket sales. La Bomba
Memphis is a basketball town. No questioning that. The Tigers rank top ten in attendance pretty much every year because they have a strong alumni base in the city. The Grizzlies have just never built the same fanbase in the city.
