I do like Taylor Swift, though. Probably because she's freaking hot. I used to hate metal and its billion of sub-genres, but over the past couple of years it's grown on me. Just because you don't like screamo metal doesn't mean that all metal is like it and that it sucks. SRV Posted March 10, 2011 Report Share Posted March 10, 2011 Well Led Zeppelin is somewhat metal..when I said I dislike metal, I mean like death metal where the singer sounds like he has a demon inside of him....I have a friend on facebook who is in a death metal band and all he does is post videos of concerts, and I can't have any appreciation for it. Its the same guitar note followed by sliding up and down with the distortion all the way up and some dude screaming like its the exorcist. Screamo gets most of its influences from Punk Genres (not Metal) and Hardcore (bands like Hatebreed also not Metal).  Also people here obviously don't like Metal because of its speed, technicality and the different style of vocals which their ears are not really accustomed to. Plenty of different metal subgenres (over 50), do have clean vocals, growling and all other crap. But I am just gonna say here Metal > Rap. Rap is cool and all but 90% of the music is the same, and just sampling music from other artists and turning it into a beat. Also rappers like Gucci Mane, Drake and Lil'Wayne are way over-glorified. Metal is by far the hardest music to play, if you check a guitar, vocal, or drumming cover of any Metal band, it would blow your mind how hard it is, especially the solos.   Sure that looks like a bunch of just drum mashing, but that is just how quick most Death Metal drummers have to be.  Another great guitar cover just showing how much skill you need to play and this is one of the slower bands and easier to play.  I think you guys don't like it because you don't understand it, when you begin to have a taste every band will pretty much blow your mind. It's pure badass. Learning to play an instrument (guitar, bass, drums) is much more difficult than sampling music and rapping it. Sure, you gotta come up with lyrics that go with the beat with rap/hip hop but you have to do that too with rock/metal. I think if people understood the time being spent into learning how to play an instrument, especially metal, they'd definitely understand it more. Though, we can all have our own opinions as to what we all like, so it's all good. The two i posted above are far different than Metal. Go listen to Meshuggah if you want to see some amazing talent in Metal and bands like Glassjaw are just as talented in the Post-Hardcore genre. The reason I appreciate a guy like P.O.S. so much is he knows how to incorporate all different genres of music. Recently I have been able to learn bits of songs by ear, but before that, I would watch lessons and covers by other people to learn a song. Its easier to watch some random dude play guitar than to watch a concert where the camera is all over the place. I am subbed to a few guys who cover songs.
