Adding a four or five-pointer would give players reason to take those shots not only at the end of games, but during them as well. Think of teams being down by 15, a few seconds left in the 3rd quarter, players pulling up for halfcourt shots. Nobody would shoot a half court shot for many reasons. Some of them being that it is a horrible shot in general and you would have a very minimal chance of making it, if you shot it early on the shot clock thn you wouldn't be forcing the defense to play at all, and the goal is to shoot as close to the basket as you can so you would have to be an idiot to chuck up a half court shot.
